LAFAYETTE-Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns softball team earned the Sun Belt Conference’s automatic bid into the NCAA Regionals for the second straight season and will participate in the Waco Regional hosted by Baylor.
The Regional appearance is the 19th in Ragin’ Cajuns’ history and will mark the 11th consecutive postseason appearance. The Cajuns won their ninth Sun Belt Conference Tournament Championship in the last 10 years.
Northwestern, the No. 12 National Seed, will face Texas State in its opening game at 5:00 p.m. CT Friday, May 15. Louisiana and Baylor will play the other first-round match-up at 7:30 p.m. Friday night. The winner of the Waco Regional will face winner of the Ann Arbor Regional featuring Michigan, Miami (OH), Cleveland State and Notre Dame for the right to go to the 2009 Women’s College World Series.
