In 2013, wearable devices began to take off in the consumer and medical industries, particularly with fitness and health tracking devices. The NPD group believes that the market will swell to 91 million units in 2015, but some insiders predict that fitness wearables only have two more years before they’re rendered obsolete by increasing smartphone functionality – that is, of course, contingent on whatever Apple’s wearable “dream team” is working on releasing in the next year.
