Working against the clock, Sean Miller swiftly acquired basketball players from New York, the Ukraine and Los Angeles. Big-time guys. What did it take, a month? Maybe less?
Give a guy a $1 million signing bonus and, whoosh, he earns most of it before he learns the difference between a cholla and a saguaro.
"To get those three guys, at this time of the year, is almost impossible," Jerry Holmes says. "This is something special that's happening here."
Jerry Holmes hasn't recruited a basketball player for almost 25 years, hasn't coached a game for a quarter-century, but in the context of Arizona basketball, he is probably the greatest recruiter in school history. Yes, that includes Jessie Evans and Josh Pastner and anybody else.
"This is amazing," says Holmes.
