Default First Time in memory: Louisiana Gear #1 in Lafayette

I remember seeing on the news a while back that Cajuns gear outsold LSU gear in Lafayette in 2013 ... for the 1st time ever. Or at least recent history as long as they've kept track of that kind of stuff anyway. And I've noticed it I know. Back in 2010/2011 it was hard to find UL shirts outside of LA Hot Stuff. You'd go to Academy and there was like 80/20 LSU/UL (if not more sometimes). But now its closer to 50/50 (should be less LSU, but I'll at least take that).

It shows just how the tide was finally moving towards support for UL. And I think that is part of why everyone is so frustrated with these losses. It felt like Lafayette in general was FINALLY getting on board and supporting UL (like they should). And now ... we don't want everyone to jump off the bandwagon. I know somepeople say we don't need the bandwagon fans anyway ... but we do. All those bandwagon fans are the ones spending money on shirts and hats and crap and putting extra butts in the seats for games.

I just hope things continue on this path even with these losses and whatever this year may bring. If it went back to 80/20 LSU/UL at Academy ... I just don't think I could take that again.

This is good news & as it should have been all along. But this is what you get when you connect a university to it's community. I give Hud a ton of that credit. But the bottom line is the president of the school, & whether we want to admit it or not, even the AD have a lot to do with that as well as other coaches. Let's face it, had it not been for the weather the first two weekends that stadium would have been stuffed with people. But don't undersell the bandwagon fans. They are smarter that you may give them credit for. They are going to give this regime a chance to right the ship. They won't however, sit around & let the wheels come completely off the wagon, or ride the wagon over the cliff to prove their stripes & loyalty. To them sports is entertainment, & if the show sucks over & over again, they are going to move on down the road. It's human nature & there's no law against it.

    Loving UL is loving Lafayette.

Unless Academy's selection quality has improved substantially, it is still junk. The 20 % they would have was not worth buying.

Just to add to this. I heard a radio commercial for Chops. A meat market in Broussard I think. The spiel was that you could get everything you needed for tailgating at Tiger Stadium or The Box at Chops. I didnt hear the entire commercial so they may have mentioned UL in the beginning but.... I dont think so.

Yep, I heard the same for Chops and I'm pretty sure I can find another butcher. To be a part of this community and simply leave out the Cajuns....tisk-tisk.

Let's not beat up on the local advertisers. They could be loyal Cajun supporters. They may have run an LSWho ad because they were playing at home and we were in Oxford.

From what I understand the stores like Academy sell only licensed merchandise. The license is granted by the university only to companies who manufacture goods that comply with the legal restrictions on the name thing resulting in the hyphen, etc. The university receives money from the licensed merchandise whereas the other more popular mds is unlicensed therefore our school receives nothing from those sales. When one sees a shirt, for example, with just University of Louisiana then it is not a licensed product (school cant allow it) and there is money down the drain for the athletic dept. Someone, somehow, some way must agree on some display of the name in a way that it meets the legal dictates and can be licensed so the school can realize the financial benefits.

Easy solution...Louisiana Ragin Cajuns. Not illegal. No hyphen.

  12. Default hyphen

This is an example of where everyone is tripping over themselves so hard trying to be legal but in so doing are breaking the law.

Hyphens are illegal in that they are a variation of "at."

UL should start selling academic shirts if they want the full blown (unrequired) name so bad.
