Just because we use an LSU example doesn't mean we have to crack open the thread and explain it 20 times. Why doesn't "Nelly" get on here and get all sensitive and cranky about the thread title? Why... because Nelly knows exactly what we're talking about and just deals with it.

Yes... the Cajuns still have a chance. That "chance"... statistically... based on prior results... is lower than I would like it to be... but, they still have a chance. Geaux Cajuns!

Just in case anyone was wondering, even though Cajun pitching has not been up to par, the Cajuns lead the Sun Belt in team ERA again.

Oh yeah, and Brentz from Middle is hitting a ridiculous .478 with 21 HR and 57 RBI. He also has a .969 Slugging Percentage.

I like to ride my bicycle, but not to work and the grocery store. Drill Baby Drill!! and Geaux Cajuns cuz it ain't over. We are a streaky team. A very streaky team. If they get on a good streak, they could play their way in. We have four pitchers with quality starts since last weekend. We have a good bullpen too.

4 good starters + timely hitting + good defense + a bullpen = a good shot at it.

What is par? Leading the Country?

Brentz is sporting a 4-2 record on the mound with a 4.07 ERA too. I'll bet he even drives the bus to road games.

I would say par is around 4.00 with really good being closer to 3.00. Currently the team ERA is 5.18.

I'm probably splitting hairs. The lowest team ERA since 2001 was 3.54 in 2006, but the average has been 4.24. I agree 4 is really good. 3.5 is God-like, imo. Any closer to 3 would be historic. There are currently 5 teams out of 303 D1 teams with team ERA under 3.7.

Bottom line. I think the pitching staff, which is consistantly at the top of the conference, takes unfair criticism. If the team had been as constistently good in other areas, there wouldn't be a Negative Nelly thread, imo.

Good points, we as fans have been spoiled with excellent pitchers over the years. I was basing the "par" on what the numbers in the past have been (4.24 avg). Of course, par for Cajun pitching is set much higher than at other schools.

If the team won more in conference than it lost... that would help too. I think the football team went 5-2 in conference last year.

"Spoiled" has a negative connotation. There is nothing wrong with Cajun fans. Maybe fortunate is a better word.
