Yes on Bowman, no on Guillory. They may try, but don't think it's going to happen.

Two corner bats and one arm to complete the 2009 class. The 2010 class, we have one local kid they like alot, maybe the JC's for another.

Thanks T. Are the corner bats jucos, or high school kids?

Josh may have a better handle on the actual rules.
You must wait until after you've exhausted your eligibility to earn back that year. The NCAA looks at the extent of the injury, when it happened and what type of treatment was taken.

Bowman is expected to apply for a medical redshirt. The NCAA is so hard to judge that anything is possible. But Guillory has no shot since hexalready redshirted, unless he misses another year to injury. The NCAA has granted sixth years to student-athletes in that case.

    That's definitely an extreme case.

The only way you can qualify for a medical redshirt (6th year hardship) is if you missed at least 2 full years due to injury. Dillon's freshman year was a true redshirt due to the fact that we had a guy by the name of Lucroy. If Dillon had missed that year because of injury he would have been okay to get the 6th year. As it stands now, he won't be here a 6th year.

  9. I have a Question Re: What's up with Guillory?

I got the redshirt part of it. But does anyone know if he is still injured, and when he will return?

Coach Rob told me both will probably not play the rest of the season. I don't see Guillory returning until the SBC Tournament, if at all. Bowman is red-shirting.

Here's a link to my blog entry from Thursday on Guillory among many other things (scroll down to the baseball notes):

According to coach Robe, Bowman is definitely out for the year. That's been the case for at least a month. He will not be back this season. He will apply for a medical redshirt, although you never know what ruling will come from the NCAA.

As of Monday, Guillory is out for at least another two weeks and might be back for the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. But I think that's a best-case scenario. Just don't see it happening. His wrist hurts when he throws and swings now and might need surgery after the season.

At this time, he is not eligible for a medical redshirt because he redshirted as a freshman two years ago. That could change if he misses all or most of another season due to injury, though.
