Thread: Sunday Starter

  1. This is so COOL Sunday Starter

Since Fusilier struggled on Sunday, I wonder if Robe plans on giving Wilborn another shot to get back to starting on Sunday. I heard Cook will be starting on Tuesday. I sure wish he would get to the Cook of last year. That would be nice. I still say Lackie should get more pithcing time. I think he'll be the ace of the staff sooner or later. About sunday, I wouldn't be surprised if Fuse doesn't start next Sunday. GREAT JOB TO OSBOURNE AND T-ROBE!!!! Man, If they could pitch like dat for the rest of the season we got a good shot of winning(if not sweeping) every series! Just wishful thinking. Let me know if what think. Should Fuse be pulled for Wilborn, or anyone else? Tell me what ya think. GEAUX CAJUNS!!!!!!!!

I happen to like lefthanded pitchers that throw 90-92mph and draw 5-6 pro scouts every time they pitch- It is unbelievable to me that Wilborn is not our Sunday starter-He is being underutilized-I sat next to the national scouting director for the SF Giants at a 2007 game and I asked him who he liked on our team besides Lucroy--He said we like a guy that you do not use very much-Andrew Laughter--He said we happen to like guys that are 6'3'' that throw 92-Laughter is now in AA-We have a history of this

Amen. Ian Pecorero is another example.

It is even more unbelievable that we do not use these guys more since Coach Robe is supposed to be a pitching guru (i'm not saying that he isn't, just saying...). Since I am not at practice day in and day out, I wonder what is done at practice with the pitchers to work on their mechanics? Just curious.

I can't help but wonder that myself. Maybe they oughtta try something new. I'm not sayin that I could coach better. But whether it's a mechanics problem, or a mental problem, hopefully we can get more consistant. This weekend two dominate wins is a perfect example. If we can hold a team to under 5 runs, we got a hell of a shot to win.

The problem with what you said is the holding a team to 5 runs part. In college baseball with the aluminum bats, no team can do this consistantly. Our main problem this year and last year, IMO, is that we are not consistant at the plate. As Coach Robe said after the Sunday game, we are soft in the box and don't compete. To me, that is either a coaching problem or a personnel problem, or both.

That is true but how does the saying go..."PITHCHING AND DEFENSE WINS" Hitting at times has been inconsistent, but pitching more often has been inconsistent. Whether its starters giving up alot of runs early or bullpen just falling apart. Lets face it our hitting on our best day won't produce 6 plus runs every game we not built for that. That why we always get so much pitching recruits coming in. I know we cant hold every team under five runs, but if we could not be down by more than 5, Im confident that we can win. Even with only a couple at bats left.

Good points. I wish I were as confident as you are. I think we have been inconsistent in all aspects of the game for the last 2 years. Hopefully that will change next year as the younger guys will have more experience. We shall see.

Just because Wilborn will probably be drafted doesn't mean we should continue to start him even though he has an era over 7. He's been pretty bad lately and right now is a liability to the team.

Remember a scout loves anyone throwing in the mid 90s but even if you a 95mph fastball without another pitch ur useless

Yea, Marze was hitting 91 against LSU, but I dont know how many scouts are coming see him (still young obviously). Also, Lackie was hitting 87, 88 in that game

First of all use the d@mn quote button if you want to quote someone, its not rocket science....

The only reason they may have been happy not to face him yesterday was the fact that they would have gotten hit by a 95mph fastball.

Wilbourn has had is opportunity to prove himself. He has had one good outing againist FIU in 8 starts. You obviously did not watch the game last week versus LSU where he threw to 2 or 3 batters (sorry I don't remember how many) but he had Griffen LEAPING to catch pitches he couldn't get anywhere near the plate.

I did the WHIP for the whole pitching staff and besides two guys who have thrown a COMBINED 6.2 innings this year he has the worst WHIP at 1.96. He gives up two baserunners an inning and that doesn't even take into account the 12 batters he has hit this year.

Yes he throws hard and scouts love that because they hope than can teach him to hit is spots, but the key is LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. Just ask Greg Maddox how he won 355 games with an 82mph fastball.

Did you happen to notice why we won Friday and Saturday??? Yes we only gave up 8 hits in two games, we also only walked 3 people in two games. If they are not given FREE baserunners they cannot get the big innings. That has been the main problem with the pitching staff as a whole this year, way to many walks and hit batsmen.
