Thread: Ragin Cajuns vs North Texas

Default Ragin Cajuns vs North Texas

Won the first game in a big way 10-0.

However right now they are down 2-1 in game 2 and it seems like the wear and tear of the season is catching up to Bourgeois. Cuevas is red hot. Why start Donna back to back?

edit: Well, even though Donna seems kind of tired, their offense has turned it up... Cajuns roll today, winning 10-0 and 11-2.!!!

This is how they need to play the rest of the season, beating up on lesser teams, making a statement to the selection committee and moving up the rpi ranks. There are still a large number of possibilities of where we will be placed and what seeding we will have. I am still of the belief that the selection committee would love for us & LSU to take care of business so they can match us in B.R. again. Both of us still have some work to do to accomplish that, but both have schedules that will allow this to happen.

Indeed, I am concerned though that they are overthrowing Bourgeois right now though and not using Cuevas enough. Donna is a competitor and wants the ball, but right now she could use some rest for the stretch that will be the conference championships and beyond. With pitching depth a luxury the Cajuns can enjoy, its hard to wonder why they dont use it more often. Last season they ultilized all 3 of the Killer Bs, the 3 headed monster so to speak, in the circle and we all saw the results it brought. Cuevas proved earlier this week she is still VERY capable of throwing at a level as good as Bourgeois and Brignac, so we're left to scratch our heads.

Yes Cuevas held strong against Troy last weekend, her best performance to date this year. She pitched well against a SWAC team during the week too. But in no way was Cuevas the same pitcher last season, as she was in 2007. Donna has proven she is mentally tough and will pitch through adversity. This is why she gets the nod over Cuevas right now.

I believe there are three reasons why you should not worry about the pitching rotation.
    1. As I have mentioned in previous posts, Donna has the training regimen of a triathlete. Her body is as physically fit as it can possibly be. She is extremely unlikely to physically breakdown.
    2. Brittany is pitching regularly now. She pitches the second game of doubleheaders and pitches 2 of the 4 or 5 games played in a week.
    3. Ashley will pitch come the conference tournament.

    1. No matter how much you train, your body will slowly get tired. Donna is giving up alot more hits early on compared to the seasons start. The season is a marathon to quote the Lotiefs, and the marathon will take its toll regardless of how hard you train. Donna digs deep and fights hard, its why she's the bulldog. However are the back to back starts like today really neccessary? She is showing wear and tear whether or not people want to admit it. She is nowhere near as sharp as she was earlier in the season in the back to back starts. Either that or teams have figured out how to hit off of Donna, either option isnt good. They are getting to the tough stretch and will need Donna at full power for the conference tournament. Cuevas is throwing great right now and looking sharp, so why not throw her more? Thats the point I am making.
    2. Cuevas didnt throw a pitch in the second game of todays double header. She came in game 1 when it was already well out of hand for the other team.
    3. Brignac will come back when they are sure there is zero risk, which could be tomorrow, or next season. Its only tendonitis, but given the fact its in her shoulder she spent a full offseason rehabbing they wont take any chances. To count on Brignac right now would be unwise. The last thing any of us want is her to be hurried back and a serious injury to occur.

There is no pitching controversy, just curious fans who wonder why Cuevas isnt seeing the ball more despite putting up amazing numbers. I believe in the Lotiefs and that they will make the right decisions, they know more than any of us about the situation and I am confident they will make the right decision. However we do wonder sometimes why there is a lack of Cuevas when every time we see her she is on fire.
