IDK what connection he has to Lee. Just an FYI, he has been coaching ABA and CBA professional teams recently. He was the 2005 ABA coach of the year. Of course, there are quite a few Lafayette's in the country.

EDIT: read more of his twitter and he was here for the UL job.

A previous tweet talks about coming to cajun country. Could be college coaching next season, he says. Still think twitter has no value, Cajun fans?

I am sure someone will educate him soon that the term "Lafayette job" is not preferred around here. In fact, if anyone on his Twitter network, why don't they let him know Louisiana is preferred.

Would someone kindly give some background about this guy, and/or details about how we may either know him, recall his name, have connections with him, or how he may have ties to the University.

    Thanks

Kevin and Texas A&M assistant Byron Smith interviewed yesterday. Reported on my blog last night.

Kevin has coached in ABA, CBA, USPL and at Lees College and Saint Catherine College.

    Two questions JP:
1 - So they really have no specific (which doesn't really matter) ties to UL?
2 - Could this be a "hire assistant now - turn into HC in 2010" type of situation?

Can you tell us more about Byron Smith? We have some info on Keathley which you reiterate above. Also, what division are the two colleges Kevin Keathley has coached at in? Are they Division 2, 3 or NAIA. Was he a head coach at Saint Catherine. Info says he was a head coach in the CBA recently. Note that the CBA is not nearly as prominent of a league as it once was. The NBA developmental league has reduced the status of these other leagues.

I would doubt that. It is extremely rare for a head coach to be fired and for an assistant to then take over. I do wonder why someone who is currently a head coach wants to move to an assistant position. It could be that the pay at those lower level pro leagues is relatively low.

Thats why this my questions seems to hold water. We're not a power house school, so why would a head coach come here as an assistant, especially with the huge possibility that Lee will be fired next year; unless there is more to his offer.

And how do you figure it's rare? It happens alot IMO. Especially at smaller schools.

Perhaps the writing is on the wall where he is. ???
