Thread: Is it time for a Lady Cajuns Golf Team?

  1. UL Golf Is it time for a Lady Cajuns Golf Team?

ZACHARY — St. Thomas More didn’t equal or better its first-round score. That didn’t keep the Lafayette school from claiming its first state title in girls golf.

The Cougars, in just their second season competing as a team, shot a 162 on Tuesday at Copper Mill Golf Club.

It was good enough to wrap up the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s Division I state title. Defending champion St. Joseph’s Academy placed second.

“We did a good job overcoming some adversity and course conditions that were really tough,” St. Thomas More coach Steve Schorr said. “With no experience playing from out in front, we handled it well. I’m proud of them.”

I thought someone (Mouliman?) mentioned that last year. Seems like a relatively inexpensive add to our program. Not sure why we don't have one already!

I was thinking the same thing. If they were to add women's golf then maybe we could add men's soccer. They are currently a club sport and with all of the talent around the area, making them an official school sport would be very smart for the university. Either add that or Lacross which is growing in popularity at a very quick rate. But I'm all for men's soccer.

I don't think the numbers add up. Typical golf teams are 5-7 players (I think) with soccer being a much larger team (more than double I would think). I think gender equity means we'd have to add another woman's sport on top of golf to get a men's soccer team on campus.
