Well, at various times we've considered ULA, like UVA and UGA. UGA, of course has two interpretations, since it's located in Athens. I believe in the past ULA was rejected because it could be interpreted as UL-Acadiana. I don't think that would happen, but I wouldn't mind it if it did.

You're right, LA could be misinterpreted as Los Angeles (there is no U Los Angeles), but LOU could be misinterpreted as Louisville, and I think I've seen L'ville listed that way on ESPN.

it doesn't matter to me whether it is Lou, ULA or LA. We just got to get rid of the UL-L, ULL, UL-Laf, UL-Laffy or any other reference y'all can think of

But that's the problem, isn't it? We can't get rid of those without stating clearly what we want to be called...

All it has to say is that correct abbreviation for University of Louisiana at Lafayette is (LA) any other abbreviation when referring to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette is prohibited

We had a UL alum as Governor who was worthless regarding UL. And her husband worked for the university. I can only hope our Acadiana delegation in conjunction with a new governor would support us in this. Someone will have to make it a priority issue.

    That is my point.

LA is totalling legal and so is LOUISIANA. (Athletic teams only)

It is very simple and legal.

Everyone knows there are no Ragin' Cajuns in Los Angeles. Gez!!!!!!!

As a general rule, no. UNC-Chapel Hill has its own Identity/brand just as USC-Columbia does. Normally, neither school is refered to as just Carolina even though as you pointed out USC-Columbia has Carolina on their jersey's.

Mascots have also been an issue at both schools/athletic teams. UNC uses a live Ram for its on field mascot along with a couple of students dressed as such. USC-Columbia now uses a live rooster along with the cartoonish human mascot. USC also uses the roosters crowing as a rally sound during games. At UNC, they just whine. There's just something right about a beautiful SC girl talk'n Cocks during football season. Er...Gamecocks that is.

The correct term for the USC mascot is anthropomorphic. That means animal that does everything a human does.
