Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns softball team picked up two more accolades on the week as Christi Orgeron and Donna Bourgeois were tabbed the top performers in the conference this week. The duo helped the Cajuns finish the week 6-0 with sweeps over Florida Atlantic and Troy.

The Player of the Week honor is the first of the year for Orgeron, while the Pitcher of the Week accolade was the third of the year for Bourgeois. The Cajuns have garnered eight SBC weekly awards this season.

Orgeron boasted a team-best .474 batting average on the week in six Sun Belt Conference games. She helped the Cajuns to a 6-0 record on the week, hitting three home runs, including a grand slam, with two doubles. Orgeron had a slugging percentage of 1.053 and an on-base percentage .524. The New Orleans native drove in eight runs on the week while scoring six runs. She had just one strikeout in 21 total plate appearances.

Orgeron had three multi-hit games on the week, going 2-for-2 against FAU, 3-for-3 with two home runs including a grand slam against Troy, and finished the week with a 3-for-4 performance with a home run in the final game against the Trojans. Orgeron had a career-high six RBI in the second game against Troy.

Bourgeois made six starts on the week posting a 5-0 record with all five wins coming against Sun Belt Conference opponents. She boasted a 0.45 ERA on the week with four complete games, two shutouts and a combined shutout to her credit. The Lafayette native allowed just three runs (two earned runs) in 31.0 innings pitched, while striking out 32 batters and allowing just four walks. Bourgeois held opponents to a .165 batting average.

She started the week with a combined shutout on the road against FAU striking out seven batters in just four innings of work and followed that performance with back-to-back complete game shutouts against the Owls. Bourgeois guided the Cajuns to a 4-2 opening game victory over Troy with eight strikeouts in the game, before limiting the Trojans to just one run in the Cajuns 9-1 victory over Troy in game two. She tossed a scoreless inning in the series finale against the Trojans.

The Ragin’ Cajuns return to action on Tuesday night as they take on Grambling in a non-conference game at Alfred and Helen Lamson Ragin’ Cajuns Softball Park. First pitch with the Tigers is slated for 5:00 p.m.
