People have complained about every mascot that we have had. People hated the Ragin Cajun when we had him, people disliked the bulldog when we had him, some people disliked the chicken, especially since it had nothing in common with the university and looked like it was stolen from a chicken joint, and people disliked the pepper. So there are going to be detractors to whatever is chosen and really the spirit costumes are more for the kids in my opinion than anything
the Rougarou would be a great fit unique to Cajun culture and pretty badass
We could go with a live mascot...
Why do we need a mascot? We have cheerleaders. Some times less is more.

The gift of the Cajun Chicken and the curse of Cayenne ...
THE SNOUT!
The only way Cayenne can get you attention is to wave its hands around.
The Cajun Chicken could turn its head and catch your eye.
Cayenne is hopeless as a spirit leader.
The better the jaw the better the awe.
The thing is, it's not (necessarily) the idea, its the execution.
And as it relates to the persons responsible for Cayenne (in all of its iterations) I'm in favor of it.
Their execution, that is.
I don't know how it would be as a mascot, but nothing identifies nationally with the cajun culture like a dam crawfish. Nothing.
Whatever the mascot is, whoever is inside it needs to know what they are doing. The person in the pepper just walks around with goal at all, other than to just look awkward and silly. The dude in the chicken, was probably one of the best entertainers of all mascots. Ever. If the chicken just walked around and did nothing (like the pepper) we would not still be talking about it 15 years after he retired. We would have been glad to see him go.
