Not our best hitter by a LONG shot... I'd rather see just about anyone else up there with the game on the line... a freshman (Les Smith), Whipple, Keefer, Fontenot...

he was left in that game because that venue, like the old box, is a launching pad. and there arm they were using had good velocity, and when velocity meets up with power, in a launching pad, the end result will be.....what he did that night

The wind was blowing 20 mph in from left field against LSU. And I don't think the guy pitching the 9th had much velocity... You may have him confused with Coleman who did not throw the 9th. If you remember the wind saved Fuse a few bombs against him early in the game. Yet Sunday the wind was blowing straight out to left.

Hawkins will be fine once he hits the next home run. This happens in baseball all the time, the guy who is close to the record starts to struggle until he gets it.

I agree that too much is being made of this pinch hit. Why Robe did it? I am sure he and Hawkins are on the same page.

BTW, thanks to UL "fan" who yelled at Hawkins to keep his foot on the bag in Sunday's game. It resulted in Scott giving a long look to the first base stands and definitely caught his attention. I did not see who did it as he was two or three sections down from me, but that was one of the most classless displays I have seen from a Cajun "fan" in a long time.

Curious if Robe heard it and saw Hawkins reaction, hence the pinch hitter as Scott has had a few rough outings and then this comment from the stands.

I doubt that there is anyone on this board more frustrated then the guys who suit up for the Cajuns each game. While they may not get it turned around this season, I don't doubt they are doing everything they possible can to change the current situation.

I serioulsy doubt that Coach Robe took Hawkins out because some drunk in the stands (probably me) hurt his feelings for not keeping his foot on the bag.

If you really believe that you have lost your mind. "Coach pwease take me out, the fat drunk guy in the stands hurt my widdle feewings" ... "Ok son here is your ticket, go get your team coke"

THIS IS DIVISION I BASEBALL give me a break.

Wow! I've never seen a fan get so upset and flustered over someone yelling at a player.

As for Scott or Coach...I don't think they give a darn who's yelling, they shouldn't even be listening. If they listen to everything that comes out of a fans' mouth then you'd probably see them coming after me with a bat b/c I don't give them any slack...and that should be their mindset too!

Keep you darn foot on the bag that's all I ask.

    P.S.
If anyone just got their feelings hurt, I sincerly apologize....

No, what I am saying is that Hawkins had obviously been pressing too hard to make something happen all weekend. The individual who said it obviously attracted Hawkins attention. You cannot convince me that he would not have pressed even harder during his next at bat. Considering the circumstances, I did not have a problem with Robe putting in a pinch hitter.

No where in my post did I imply that Hawkins asked to be taken out of the game. The two events may not have any connection, but never the less the comment was uncalled for. Especially as I did not think the throw was in time nor did I think he took his foot of the bag early in Saturday's game.

I too believe that once Hawkins sets the record he will settle down and his consitency will return.

I'm sure he'll have you seeing 20/20 just like Griffen is. I mean, can't you tell how well it has worked for Thad. Scott is very quick to remove his foot from the bag every time a ball is thrown his way and I am SHOCKED that there have not been many more SAFE calls do to it.

ANYWAYS, I have no problem with a fan voicing his concerns or opinions at a ballplayer during a game. Whether it's a word of encouragement OR a word of "Constructive Criticism". My words to "SCOTT CHAUF-KINS AND WILLIE LONGDROPPINGS" were DEAD ON and I WILL CONTINUE TO REPEAT them on a regular basis as long as we continue to play like Downsyndrome Teradactyls!!!

And as long as I think coach robe is doing an awful job as a coach and motivator you will hear me complain.
