Good article. Please Saints, please!!!
Fenroy was out at the softball game today.
Over 16,000 students and we're still a "smaller college"?
It's a mistake media members make all the time. Yes, even me. If anything, say a mid-major program or non-BCS conference.

I want to see this guy achieve his goal of playing in the NFL so bad. He's such a good guy, he deserves a shot and I think he could only make a team better. Best of luck to him.
I hope Fenroy gets a chance next weekend not just for UL but for a person who has worked hard and has great character and deserves the chance to move on. Good luck next weekend, we will say a prayer for you and be watching for your name to be called!
Louisiana-Lafayette is a hyphenated school that is a mid-major program. Perception is everything and our lack of success coupled with our hyphenated name makes us a small college in the eyes of most. We MUST change our perception to the public. That starts with not only winning but with our name, dropping the hyphenated name and using Louisiana exclusively. Winning alone while still being referred to as Louisiana-Lafayette will NOT change the perception of who we are. It must be accomplished together. What concerns me is the athletic administration is concerned about the RCAF and facility improvements only and is putting the name, mascot and logo on the back burner until all of this is accomplished. That will only serve to get us more and more entrenched as Louisiana-Lafayette. They are not mutually exclusive. Address both simultaneously and success on the field coupled with our right name will bring the right kind of recognition for this university and cahnge the perception of who we are.
Do we really have to turn every GD thread into a NAME DISCUSSION!?!?!?!?!?! Good Lord in Heaven....

Unfortunately when it comes to athletic budget and success, we are a small school, perhaps one of the smallest in D1. And until THAT changes we will be a small school, no matter what our name is.
Agreed as to one of the smallest budgets in 1A. BUT, all of that is changing. Major facility improvements will start shortly in softball, baseball, football, track & field, & dorm/educational center, plus the RCAF. When all of this is completed and we win, revenue will increase and so will recognition. The recognition I want is as UL or Louisiana, not UL Lafayette or Louisiana-Lafayette. We don't have to wait a few years for the recognition THEN worry about the name. Do it all at the same time. We are almost doing that now, we are just inconsistent in our message. Dr. S needs to send out a statement that "We Are Louisiana", as he did for Homecoming. However, that needs to be a directive to the athletic department and Julie Dronet and not just a theme. Another major impact that will have is on marketing and revenue generated from the sale of UL and Louisiana merchandise. Revenue is practically non-existent from Louisiana-Lafayette gear. BTW, I have heard that the athletic department has on the drawing board a separate co-op building at the athletic complex where we can purchase UL gear 7 days a week and especially on game days. Things are changing for the better. All of these things combined will change the perception of UL as a small time school.
