Thread: What would make you happier?

Default What would make you happier?

Thinking about this the other day and figured it was a bit tougher for me to decide than I thought. Would you rather us roll into Tiger Stadium this year and knock off LSU but then go winless the rest of the year except for Southern OR would you rather get rolled in Baton Rouge but go 10-2, go to a bowl and win it? I thought for sure it would be the latter but then I just thought for a second about how it would feel to look a Tiger fan in the eye and just smile that they got beat by UL. I guess in the end, I'd have to give the strong nod to the winning record since it would be ultimately better for the program.

All I am worried about right now is rolling Southern. If we don't win that game, it's over.

Personally 10-2 would be my pick. Anyone that picks beating LSU obviously makes that selection based on bragging rights and I don’t care to get in a bragging rights contest with LSU or any other top program. The Cajuns just don’t have the bullets.

The joy of a 10-2 season would last a few years. The joy of beating LSU would last for a lifetime.

As nice as it would be to beat LSU in their own place, I would have to go with the 10-2 record and bowl win, which IMO, would propel us to bigger and better things in the future.

I look at it this way. In baseball, we regularly beat LSU, but which program has the most CWS titles? Look at the other night, when SLU was b$&ch slapping us around in Hammond, lowly Nicholls was beating LSU on the road. Do you honestly think that that win will now propel Nicholls to power house status in baseball?

I agree. I do see the sports to not be comparable however but I understand your point. I think a win in football would be monumental but unless you were to go and build on that with a huge winning season and bowl win, it probably would do less for the program in the long run. Last year when we were on the winning streak, playing well and putting lots of people in the stands, we constantly had a lot of recruits attending games and stating how attractive we had become with facility improvements, new attitude and obvious wins. I think a good winning season would do a lot more for us than the one win. I just thought it would be an interesting question to ask.

It is a great question and made me really think. Now, if we were to beat LSU and go, let's say.....7-4 with a bowl win, that would be the best. As a matter of fact, that's my prediction for this upcoming season. Hey, you have to dream big if you're a Cajun fan

10-2 with a bowl berth, no question

We're a sad bunch if we choose 1 win over LSU over 10-2 and a bowl win. i'd Gladly trade our LSU baseball win for 2 of 3 over ULm last weekend. I WANT UL to succeed and I don't care about LSU. With that said, let's kick their butts Wednesday.

Believe me, there is nobody more concerned of the opening game more than myself but I just think its an interesting scenario. What made me think of it was when I last spoke to a friend of mine who happens to be one of these LSU fans who dares a cajun fan to even think that there is a possibility of us beating LSU ever. They tend to like to "put us in our place" from time to time. I made the comment when the schedule changed and has us going there this year vs 2010 when we were supposed to I said that I wished they had kept it in 2010 because we'd have more experience and he asked me why it mattered as if it was a forgone conclusion. While it probably is, it just ticks me off to get that attitude and if he wasn't my friend, I'd probably pimp slap him. Anyhow, I'd love to be able make that phone call that night and listen to him melt down.

He wouldn't. His reply would be "dumb luck, terrible officiating, etc." Why even get yourself involved in discussions like that. Its a no-win outcome.
With friends like that you don't need any enemies.

Given those choices, a 10-2 record is obviously the better choice, but the question is flawed.

A 2-10 record with a win over lsu-br is much more improbable than a 10-2 record with a loss to them.

A more believable comparison is a 5-7 record with a win over the tiggers versus the 10-2 record with the bowl bid.

...and I would take the win over lsu-br and the 5-7 record over the bowl bid and 10-2 every day of the week.
