Louisiana’s women’s tennis team has been improving all season and now will look to test themselves this weekend in the Sun Belt Championships in Denton, Texas. The Cajuns 8-11 on season have been able to rebound after a rough start to the season. The Cajuns have been able to settle under first year head coach Tina Samara as the season progressed.
The Cajuns are seeded seventh in the tournament and will take on 10th seeded ULM in the first round, a team they beat 6-1 earlier in the season. The match will take place at 8 a.m. on Friday.
UL has been lead by senior Angela Dangond this season. She stepped up midway through the season to take over the number one spot in the lineup. She has a 6-5 record at number one and 10-8 overall.
Julie Mazinova leads the team in win percentage with a record of 10-7.
The doubles lineup also changed midway through the season and the moves have paid off very well. Since joining forces at number one doubles Mia Gordon and Mazinova have gone 7-4. Milou Israel and Dangond have an 8-3 record at number two.
The Cajuns will attempt to bring home a conference championship for the first time in school history.
