Geez, the writer talks a lot about energizing and energy
What criteria were used? Like him or not, Ricky deserves to be a few spaces higher than that.
Z
You are exactly right Z. He took over a program that had 36 scholarship athletes. That is 50 below the maximum number allowed and it took him 6 years to get to 86 schollies. He also took over a program that has never had a stretch of 5+ years in a row of winning seasons.
I wanted him gone after the McNeese debacle, but he is slowley turning this program around and making it a respectable football program. 6-6 does not suck in non BCS football. Are we where I think we should be? No, but we are not that far off.
It would be foolish of any Cajun fan to expect UL to win more than 8 games per year no matter how good we are. We would still have to play the big boys like LSU, Texas, Nebraska and schools like that will beat us 99% of the time.
7-5 or 8-4 with a bowl appearance is about as high as we can shoot for and still be realistic. I think Bustle has built this program to where we are very close to achieving that. Once that happens we should start to win the recruiting battles for the local 3 star athletes that choose to go to other programs.
i can't disagree with you more.
yes, he has turned it around from baldwin, but we have reached the peak of what bustle can do for us. i'm sorry, maybe im a competitor, but 6-6 year in and year out doesn't appeal to me at all. and he has only done it 3 times in 7 years. who cares about a program who hasn't had 5+ winning seasons in a row. just because that was the past doesn't mean we have to settle for that now. he seems complacent going 6-6, and always has a goofy smile on his face. i would to if i knew i wasn't a good coach and had the best job security in the country, because we are broke. we need a new coach, one that players actually want to play for, and not think is a joke.
I seriously doubt he is satisfied with 6-6 seasons. He knows what it takes to get to the bowls, and we haven't had enough horses to get us there yet; especially on a consistent basis, which I'd bet he is striving for.
As for players wanting to play for him, or considering him a joke - - do you have insight that others here don't? A "hand full" of players is not enough to justify that statement; but if a large percentage believe that (let's say 20% or more), I'd like to know!
Blah, blah, blah.
Worst winning percentages in Cajun history (19 coaches)
#16--Rickey Bustle(0.39--7yrs)'02-'09
#17--T.F. Wilbanks(0.38--6 yrs)'31-'36
#18--Herbert Tudor(0.20--1 yr)'20
#19--Jerry Baldwin(0.18--3 yrs)'99-'01
What's that? You say that's because he inherited such a bad program? You say he has improved it so much?
'02-'03
7-17 record, 7 BCS games played
'07-'08
9-15 record, 4 BCS games played
The records are virtually identical.
