Thread: Gates to the Swamp ( SwampGate Project )

  1. Default Swamp Gate Donors

Would you be in favor of transferring the money you donated to the Swamp Gate project to recruiting?

Rising cost of the gates makes building them impossible right now. Since the recent ban on State employees traveling will severely hamper recruiting. Coupled with the fact that the monies donated for the Swamp Gate project are going unused; would you be willing to support recruiting?

Great question and food for thought. Turbine, please let us know if any of the Blanco Clan votes and remember this is Louisiana politics. Maybe you can tell us HOW any of them voted.

I was unable to donate so I really have no buisness speaking on this subject but...

I think that when people donate money to a certain cause that orginization has an obligation to use it for that purpose. People doanted money to see those gates built so that money should go to those gates. If they wanted to donate that same money to the cajun recruiting fund or the general athletic fund they could have done so.

If those gates aren't built I am going to have a hard time donating money to UL athletics in the future (when I am able to).

I basically agree with you here. I donated to the Swamp Gate and would like to see that project finished. I've got no problem donating a similar amount to further help recruiting as well. Money sent in for a specific project should be used for that project. If the staff were to call and ask, "would you mind if we used it instead for "x", then I would be OK with that too.

I see y'all point. Also, weren't the swampgates for recurring revenue for recruiting?

I believe you are correct sir! Sponsorships of each gate were to be designated to recruiting. So if the seeds are the gates, they need to be planted to bare fruit down the line

Well don't expect to see the swamp gates any time soon the price has quadrupled, and we only raised a fourth of the current cost. I don't know how we afforded the brick parking entrances.

Well that's what really bugs me.

If they had the money to put up 4 gates outside of Cajun Field then they probably had the money to put up those other two swamp gates.

While I'm not in a position to know, I would think not. I had heard that costs had gone up significantly since the project began; however I also thought I'd heard that the difference was being made up through other sources. Would like to know the real answer.

Daddy Cajun -- this was one of your big pushes. What's the scoop?

Your right the prices have gone up 3-4 times the original projected price. The parking entrances were built by a construction company that did the work in trade for a few years of Louisiana Classic Member Status and its benefits.

    UL 1984, 1999 . . . . Considering a Meeting for SwampGates and Recruiting

I am considering hosting a meeting for those of us that would be willing to make the Swamp Gate Project happen and raise funds for recruiting.

SwampGate could be built by someone who has a construction company that would trade their expenses for Louisiana Classic membership with all the trimmings. That company should get 2-3years of Louisiana Classic membership/tickets/advertising for their cost and labors!!

If anyone has a construction company or knows someone who might be interested please have them call Gerald Hebert @ 337-962-0296 or 337-482--0927!

If U would like to attend this meeting please post on this thread or IM me through RaginPagin and post a time and date that would be convient for you. I will look at the data and choose a time, date and place that is most convient for the Majority!
