JONESBORO, Ark.-Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns golf team opened play at the 2009 Red Wolf Classic at the 6,565-yard par-72 Ridge Pointe Country Club in Jonesboro, Ark. After two rounds of play, the Cajuns are in third place, thanks to a pair of top 10 finishes by UL golfers Kyle Pritchard and Philipp Fendt.

Louisiana opened the tournament with a team score of 289 to rank first after one round of play. After the first round, the Cajuns were one stroke ahead of South Florida and four strokes ahead of North Texas, Stephen F. Austin and Illinois State.

The Cajuns fell to third place after the second round. The Cajuns shot a five over par round of 293, but a five under par round of 283 by Oral Roberts and a three under par 285 by tournament-host Arkansas State leap frogged the Cajuns for first place. UL is one stroke back of Oral Roberts and ASU heading into the final round of play.

Pritchard paced the Cajuns with a third place finish after day 1. The junior shot an opening round of 68 to claim a share of the lead after one round. Pritchard followed his opening round performance with a second round under par (71) to finish in a tie for third place after two rounds at five under par.

Finishing just five strokes back at even par was Fendt. The true freshman had an opening round of one over par and shaved two strokes off of his afternoon round (71) to finish at even par after two rounds to finish in a tie for eighth place.

Devin Carrey posted two solid rounds to finish in the top 20 after day 1. The senior opened the morning round with a one over par 73 and concluded his day with a two over par 74 to finish in a tie for 19th.

Rounding out the team scoring for the Cajuns were Thomas Petts and Dustin Petit. Petts finished 11 over par in a tie for 57th, while Petit was 16 over par in a tie for 78th.

Freshman Andrew Noto competed as an individual. The rookie finished the first day of competition at nine over par to tie for 41st.

The Ragin’ Cajuns conclude play in the 2009 Red Wolf Classic on Tuesday.
