Louisiana leads the series with Stephen F. Austin 14-1:
Game time 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at "Tigue" Moore Field
The two programs meet for the first time since 1994. Tuesday’s game will mark the first meeting of the Robichaux Era (SFA disbanded its program following the 1995 season and resurrected the program in 2006).
UL brings a six-game win streak over the Lumberjacks into Tuesday’s game. In the last meeting, UL swept a doubleheader on March 23, 1994 at “The Tigue” by the count of 2-1 and 4-1. All 15 previous meetings took place between 1988 and 1994 (10 were held over the 1988 through 1990 seasons).
Since the last time Stephen F. Austin and Louisiana met, a lot has changed. The Cajuns have a new coach (Mike Boulanger was skipper in last SFA meeting), Louisiana was USL (University of Southwestern Louisiana) and “The Tigue” was simply named Moore Field (re-dedicated in 1995 as M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field). Stephen F. Austin has a “new program” as the team was disbanded in 1995 and brought back to life in 2006.
Stephen F. Austin has won six of its last nine contests and enters Tuesday’s game at 13-19 overall, 6-11 in the Southland Conference.
SFA is under the direction of first-year head coach Johnny Cardenas. Cardenas served as interim head coach of the ‘Jacks when the position became vacant last June. SFA must make a quick turnaround following Tuesday’s game as they host UTPA in a doubleheader at 12 Noon on Wednesday.
Brian Ferguson had a 12-game hit streak dating back to March 22 snapped last Saturday at A&M-Corpus Christi. It was the longest hit streak in his career and the longest such streak by any Lumberjack this year.
Sean Meyers is the top hitter with a .402 average, 11 doubles, four home runs and 30 RBI. Richard Folmer and Alex Moshier have pitched in the same game 10 times this season, with the ‘Jacks sporting a 10-0 record in those games.
Moshier has 20 appearances and sports a 1.29 ERA over 21 innings. Folmer has 15 appearances and has recorded six saves. They combine for 49 strikeouts over 39 innings of relief.
