Geaux Cajuns Thanks Guru
LOUISIANA La. — Austin Wilkinson didn’t need much time to make up his mind about his football future.
The 6-foot-2, 265-pound offensive lineman from The Woodlands, Texas, visited Louisiana's campus Tuesday morning, and gave Ragin’ Cajun head coach Rickey Bustle a commitment early Tuesday afternoon.
“They had offered me a couple of weeks ago,” Wilkinson said Tuesday, “and I started looking up stuff about the school and liked what I found out. But I wanted to visit and look around before I did anything.”
Wilkinson, soon to be a three-year performer in the offensive front for Woodlands High, got the tour from Cajun offensive line coach Mike Gibson on Tuesday.
“He showed me around the campus, and I thought it would be fun to go there and play,” Wilkinson said. “He said they try to run pretty much a 50-50 offense, and I’ve had a lot of experience both run and pass blocking.”
Going into 2002 Austin Wilkinson was a junior letterman who saw action in 4 games in '01. He entered last season as the starting quick guard. Austin was one of the five starters who benched over 300lbs. and squated over 400lbs as a junior.
Running Back gives credit to OL and Austin Wilkinson
The Woodlands High School plays in a very tough district for football with the Klein schools, Spring and Westfield.
Link with picture to Austin and his vitals. Hopefully he'll get the ball rolling on what could be a fantastic recruiting year!http://www.iowastate.rivals.com/view...p?pr_key=18887
Thanks ISUCajunFan
He will be sorely needed when the stable of running backs are juniors.
I can't find any recent articles on Wilkinson, but his team (The Woodlands Highlanders) is ranked #1 in the State of Texas. [ LINK ]

Players keeping cool amid swirl of state pressure

It began, appropriately enough, back in late August with The Woodlands taking on Bryan in the Texas Football Classic at San Antonio's Alamodome, a high profile event that annually and officially kicks off the high school football season around the state.
It will end on Saturday at Rice Stadium, fittingly scheduled for high noon, like the shoot-out it promises to be. The Highlanders take on the North Shore Mustangs in a battle of 14-0 teams for the Class 5A Division I state championship. It's a game and an opportunity that dreams are made of.
"At the beginning of the season, that's all you think about," The Woodlands quarterback Jordan Dodson said. "You break the huddle saying, `State Champs!' and stuff like that. So it's a dream come true for everybody on the team."
"It's incredible," echoed Highlanders defensive back Daniel Charbonnet. "I think it's really going to sink in when we walk out on the field and there's over 20,000 people there."
That's a low estimate considering the enormity of the game, the Houston area connection, and the fact that it is the only game in town that day.
"It's a big place," Highlanders wide receiver Danny Amendola said. "I've been there before. I've never played there. It's big. It should be exciting. There should be a lot of people there."
Dodson agrees.
"I've never played there before," he said. "I've played on the baseball field before. But I've been to some Rice games. It's a great stadium. I think it will be perfect for the state championship."
The all-Houston area 5A state finals matchup is a first.
"It says Houston can play football," Amendola said. "I guess we've always been known for good football, especially in Texas. It says a lot that two Houston teams are playing."
It is also the first state finals appearance for both schools.
