The lone strikeout for Cajuns’ batters versus UALR on Sunday, March 22, is the best figure of the season, beating the previous best of three set on March 8 at Arkansas State.
Louisiana had previously struck out at least six times in every game in which they posted 10 or more hits.
Senior Matt Hicks entered the 2009 campaign with 18 sacrifice hits, six short of the career mark of 24 held by Devon Bourque (2004-07). In the 14th on Friday,
Hicks laid down his first sac bunt of the year, giving him 19 for his career and posing him one bunt away from fourth on the all-time list. In each of the past four seasons, Louisiana has utilized the sacrifice bunt at least 50 times.
The Cajuns set the school record in 2006 with 57 sacrifice hits, and tied it with 57 again in 2008. Junior Will Long is close behind Hicks, with 15 sacrifice hits in his career.
