Kiefer Behind the Plate

IMO, it made all the difference this weekend. He called a tremendous game Friday night, and it looks like he and Osborne have some serious chemistry. He may not have the arm that Griffin has, but he stays in front of every pitch in the dirt, and he's a field general. I really like this move from our staff... now, Will Long at 3rd I DO NOT like, but he's hitting right now, so we'll see..

Actually I could not disagree more.... Keifer does not call his own game.... Griff does... On Satrurday I watched Keif half chase a pass ball allowing a runner to move from 2nd to 3rd when a bit of hustle would have kept him at second.... He is hitting better than Griff right now but I like Griff much better behind the plate.... And I do believe the more swings Griff gets the better he will be at the plate....

Well, coach Rob is actually the one who said that Kiefer called great games this weekend, so that was straight for the horses mouth. As far as the hustle things goes, I don't remember what play you're talking about, so I digress.
But for Griffin... the guy is a very undisciplined hitter. His approach is bad, and he is fooled easily. Lots of holes in swing, and he doesn't seem to adjust at all. I hope they keep Kiefer catching. It benefits offense and pitching.

Griffen shouldn't be allowed to touch a bat again until they can work out the holes in his swing and get him to take a disciplined approach at the plate. Kid has a lot of tools, but he is an offensive liability right now. Hopefully that changes sooner rather than later.

Coach Babineaux confirmed that Keefer calls his own game.

I do remember Keefer's brain fart. Besides that play, I don't remember him being a liability at catcher.

Are you talking about the ball that got by him and the umpire got in his way to go and get???? Give me a break Keifer def Hustles....I mean he is not as good a catcher as Griffen, but by him catching it takes an out, out of the line-up!

Dude, I was there right behind him and it was obvious he didn't run to get to the ball. The umpire was in the way (only slightly). But he didn't run to pick the ball up.

However I don't believe it was "lack of hustle." To be honest I think he just forgot there was a baserunner. Everyone has a brain fart now and again. You could tell after the play he was ______ed at himself.

Well if Robe said it I accept it but I was watching closely... before every pitch Keefer (ok????? lol) looked to the dugout... Griffen never does.. I have heard robe on Bitter's show saying he trusts Grifffen to call the game

Look I am not anti Keefer and I do recognize Griff is not hitting as we had hoped... I just think there is such a high ceiling for griff that I would like to see the coaches not lose faith...........

BJ Ryan.

But he couldn't throw a strike, so Robe never pitched him. I think Thad Griffen is the same way (to a much lesser extent of course). He has the prototypical build and will probably be drafted, but right now he can't hit a curve ball or an offspeed pitch.
