Thread: THe Honeymoon is over

    Default THe Honeymoon is over

I was looking on the New Orleans Bowl website and saw the Hotel partners were listed. With the Saints having a home game the day after, I figured the hotel rates would be higher this year, even with a NOB rate. The rates weren't listed but I called a few hotels. Last year the Crowne Plazas rate was $89.00/night. This year the rate is $140.00/night. The sight doesn't even list the Marriott, Hilton on the river or Hyatt this year. Most of the hotels listed were by the convention center. The cheapest rate I found was at the 4 points by Sheraton on Bourbon for $129/night.

I hope we go 12-0 and end up in the cotton bowl but if we don't it will probably be New Orleans and we won't run that city near as much as we have the last three years. Finding a hotel for a decent price will prove to be difficult.

I just checked Hotels.com and... ouch. This is going to hurt the pocketbook.

And a quick tip for poor students: Yes, there are a few cheap hotels available. And no, definitely don't stay in those.

Just like the NOLA bowl cutting ties with the SBC down the line, they are using the leverage gained by the cajuns choosing to make the game an event into upping hotel prices and get "better matchups" that don't include the cajuns. It's time for us to let go of that bowlgame for a few seasons and let them remember just how bad things were without the cajuns and let them come crawling back.

I would think it's more bc of the Falcons being in town that weekend. Rooms are a premium every weekend the Saints are at home.

First the New Orleans Bowl does not set the price of hotel rooms, the hotel does. The bowl can negotiate a price but the hotel sets the price and that is based on demands. There are a lot of times when I go to New Orleans for a Saints game I would love to have $140 a night room rate. The Saints are in town that weekend, there is not going to be a $89 or $99 room rate in the city. Check other weekends the Saints are in town.

    This.

Also, if we do go back to New Orleans, I don't think I'll do anything more than the game. They've benefited enough from hotel rooms from us for the (comparatively) tiny cut they give us from ticket sales.

    I drove three years in a row. I figure I saved $750 X 3 =$2250 six night stay/game. Eat, drink and parking.....And $2250 might be light......

I wasn't aware of the saints game, but the hotels can raise the price on their hotels knowing it takes advantage of their presumed influx of fans from the cajuns the past 3 years, but that doesn't seem to be the situation.
