Thread: Changes coming for Cajuns at WR?

  1. Default Changes coming for Cajuns at WR?

One week into the season, and the Cajuns may already have a little bit of a shakeup going on at wide receiver. Redshirt freshman Matthew Barnes' hands and physical ability were impressive enough during fall camp to merit a switch to receiver from tight end ...

Nice article, I take back my misgivings, Luke Johnson is doing a wonderful job covering the Cajuns. I look forward to his spin on things.

Fuselier? Not at all surprised he played well in the game, he is a gamer.

Johnson: Great to see him doing his thing, it will take special defensive backs to shut him down.

Barnes: Did the big stage get to him? No doubt he has ability, he just needs to calm down.

Agreed about Johnson. He listened to our concerns and appears to be doing his best regarding the name within the constrictions of the Advocate management.

If you get in, make plays. Fuse does this. Glad he signed here and look forward to him being a huge contributor.

They talked up CJ Bates a lot but he didn't get in until Haack was playing. That was a little surprising but I'm sure there will be plenty of chances

Except for a few drops, the receivers looked great. I knew we had depth there, but didn't realize how good it was til I saw it. We saw a bunch of different guys mixed up in different formations in the first half. It almost reminded me of how the Saints use their guys. Even our 3rd string TE was getting time and making some blocks and a catch. I'm not worried about the receivers. Just focus and catch the ball.

Wet conditions made have played a part in the drops. The article says that Fuselier recorded no statistics. I thought I saw him catch a ball (and drop another). Did he not catch a pass? Was it negated by a penalty? Or did I do a little too much "prepping" before the game?

Fuse had 2 catches for 20 yards.
Also Barnes has been moved back to right end and fuse is now 2 second string at slot.

Barnes looked iffy at best. Its no surprise he's been moved back to TE although I also wouldn't be surprised to see him patrolling the center of the field this Saturday as well and moving around. You don't go from praising a guy like they did for weeks to throwing him to the wolves because he was likely nervous and didn't perform well. I think we will see Fuselier more but I don't think we will see the second coming of Peoples yet either.

Our receivers are excellent, particularly our top two. We have some talent behind them it just needs to be realized. I hope they can come along slowly as our offense picks it up during the course of the year and Butler and Robinson continue to have big years.

Minor miscue by Luke on the Fuselier stats.....it happens.

I believe CajunT said we would use him a lot like Peoples. We did not run those plays Saturday. Saving those for Old Miss and BoysState as we probably don't need them to beat LTUr.
