Interesting point. CUSA is probably out of the question anyway because LaTech would veto us (and plenty of good alternatives in ArkSt, USA, etc). AAC and Big 12 are simply not going to reach down to the SBC to grab a moderately successful (over the past 4 years with no real success previously) team in a small market. That being said- what is the future. If the Cajuns bounce back and win out the SBC is going back to NOLA (or Mobile) to play CUSA or MAC teams going to get Cajun fans excited and supportive year after year? How can the program build on the past three years if this year is not a big success (say there are losses at Boise and Ole Miss and then one or two losses against Ark St., USA or TxSt?). What can be done to encourage average fans (and students- the future fans) to come to support a team that is not going to be as good as the hype? I will get yelled at for asking this question- but is all the effort of "rebranding" and trying to force everyone else to drop the third L really beneficial? A reading of other Louisiana forums makes it clear that our fans are the most disliked (and laughed at) in the State. There are directional programs (UTSA, ECU, CFU for example) and schools with city names in them (Boise St, Memphis, Tulsa, Cincy for example) that seem to be building a strong programs, moving up in conference and scheduling, and which embrace their identity. I assume that the name Nazi's will be calling for my scalp for even suggesting that a refocusing of energy is called for but I do believe it is a question that should be asked.
