I'm more of an aggie supporter than hater but there is absolutely no way I will ever see watch 3 games again at that ballpark. I could possibly stomach 1 or 2 but the rituals they use at baseball games are so goofy and out of place I'd shoot myself by the 3rd game.
Like I said I actually like aggies and their rituals work well some places but NOT at the ballpark.
I would rather not have a mascot than keep the pepper. Having it in our long list of artworks is one thing, but having it as a mascot was missed on me from the start. If we are going to change to something else, I want this thought out long and hard. So far, in the offerings over the past few years, I like the Catahoula. I know we have the habitat for an alligator and everything, but with the Catahoula comes a) a unique animal that ties into our locality as much as any... and b) it is a dog. I like dogs and can't see this going the wrong direction. I think we could all rally around a good dog. They are low maintenance, so RCAF will not have to build a $5Million zoo for him... you can take him for a walk without a standby tranquilizer gun... hand him a treat without losing your hand... and he'll be smart enough to recognize his own name. I just see a lot of upsides. We could go to one of the top breeders and come away with a dog that everyone... men, women and children would love to love. The Ragin Cajun family simply adds a loyal dog to their household. Nothing wrong with that IMO.
I refer you to one of my previous posts:

<< The King of the stock dog breeds, most enduring... stamina is their middle name... CATAHOULAS outwork and outfight all other breeds of stock dogs when protecting their master, livestock, and property. They are the largest and most aggressive of the cattle dogs, bred to handle wild cattle and hogs in the roughest, most remote country. Catahoulas will also hunt coon, bear, or whatever else they are introduced to.
Catahoulas are bred to go and find livestock in swamps, hilly canyons, thickets or forests, or mountains. >>

<< Catahoulas are highly intelligent, energetic, have a high pain tolerance and are very quick, yet they are also very loving and gentle with children they know or have adopted, and their family (pack). They are extremely versatile and have been used in search and rescue, hunting, herding and agility. This breed is also renowned for their ability to tree raccoons, many Catahoulas can actually climb trees, aided by their long, hard, sharp nails which help them grip the bark. >>
THIS DOG IS FREAKIN' SUPERMAN
<< One theory as to the origins of the breed states that the Catahoula is thought to have descended from "war dogs" (Mastiffs and Greyhounds) brought to Louisiana by Hernando de Soto in the 16th century. In the 1800s, French settlers arrived in Louisiana with their Beauceron. They told of strange looking dogs with haunting glass eyes that were used by the Indians to hunt game in the swamp.[13] It is thought the Beauceron and Red Wolf/war dog were interbred to produce the Catahoula. >>
<< Jim Bowie and brother Rezin Bowie, who spent much of their youth in Catahoula Parish are reported to have owned a pair of Catahoulas. It was said that they would sleep with a Catahoula at their feet.[14][15] During the early 1900s, Teddy Roosevelt used the Catahoula when hunting. Louisiana Governor Earl K. Long had an interest in the breed and collected them.[15]
In 1979, Governor Edwin Edwards signed a bill making the Catahoula the official state dog of Louisiana in recognition of their importance in the history of the region. >>
Now, I defy anyone to come up with a better mascot for THE UNIVERSITY OF LOUISIANA.

So far, in the offerings over the past few years, I like the Bull Gator. a) a unique animal that ties into our locality more than any on the planet... and b) I can't see this going the wrong direction. I think we could all rally around a good Bull Gator or three. There are zero extra maintenance questions, so RCAF will not have to build or maintain our existing $5Million zoo for him... no you can't take him for a walk but you can walk unlimited miles around his existing habitat... you can't hand him a treat without losing your hand except UL already as someone feeding him so not to worry.... unfortunately he'll never recognize his own name unless you notice his snout twitch in recognition when he hears for the 1 millionth time "that is one tough looking dude." I just see a lot of upsides. We could go with one of the top feeders and come away with a Bull Gator that everyone... men, women and children would love not having to explain away. The Ragin Cajun family simply recognizes the loyal resident icons of the Swamp that UL has been taking care of for generations on campus, otherwise known as the Louisiana Bull Gator. Nothing wrong with that IMO.

Nice CajunNation
Which one most defines the look of the breed to you?
Most Catahoulas are gonna look like the last few pics, but there is a wide array of color combinations out there, and if we were to choose such an animal as a mascot, I'm fairly certain we would be able to find some resembling the color pattern on the last pic....very close to vermilion and white.
