Thread: Fan dissatisfaction evident with decision

  1. UL Basketball Fan dissatisfaction evident with decision

Cliff Broussard admits that he was a little surprised when UL announced in a press release on March 20 that head men's basketball coach Robert Lee and women's head coach Errol Rogers would return next season.

A men's basketball season-ticket holder for the past 15 years, Broussard was more focused on whether Lee was coming back. The Cajuns went 10-20 this past season under the fifth-year coach and lost for the third consecutive year in the opening round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.

I'm not a huge basketball fan, and the fact that these two coaches are terrible makes it even harder for a fair weather basketball fan like myself to get excited about Cajun Basketball.

Now, just my two cents on the matter (and this may have even been posted on the numerous threads about coach Lee, etc. I have not read them all). Maybe the reason we didn't fire the guy was financial reasons? Knowing that the University is going into hard times, maybe we don't have the resources to be looking around for two head coaching jobs, not to mention the staff that the two would bring in?

David Walker specifically pointed out in his Q&A that money was not an issue. Both buyouts could have been done with monthly payments.

    Issues?

I'll tell you what the overriding issue was for both coaches keeping their jobs.

    FEAR

    FEAR of players leaving.

FEAR of the Softball team not being able to go to the post-season.(Apparrently the price for a post-season appearance in Softball these days is the ruination of 2 basketball programs.)

    FEAR of lawsuits.

This is the modus operandi of the UL administration when it comes to athletics. They operate out of fear. They constantly see boogey-men around the corner and wolves nipping at our heels.

You can either stand up proudly, with confidence and arrogance, and live your life---OR---you can cower in FEAR in the corner, praying that the boogey-man doesn't get you.

...and a lot of us are REALLY getting sick of the childish antics.
