Just a visitor here, but once this statement is made by Mr. Walker:

"I have every confidence in the world that Robert is going to be successful next year."

What more needs to be asked other than nailing down his definition of "successful"?

An AD would be nuts to release a coach he feels will be successful in the very next season...I would think.

Perhaps the rest of the interview should have been done with one a tad higher up the food chain.

Whatever the case, I hope Coach Lee is able to live up to Mr. Walker's faith in him.

Typical Q&A. I've done plenty of them before.

Josh, I thought it was a good interview and the APR information was informative. David Walker was not going to answer or give any more information on the record, then what is in your article.

1)MY contention all along was that Lee's decision to dump several scholarships laid at the feet of David Walker. Coaches are not allowed to make such decisions arbitrarily without approval from the athletic director at UL.

    Josh Parrott
Walker supported Lee's decision to make changes to personnel. That turnover added up to an APR score of 680.

    David Walker
"I wasn't going to blame a coach for two kids transferring because they wanted more playing time, two deciding to be pros and another kid who had already graduated," Walker said. "As a coach, he's required to control certain factors, but it's difficult to control that."

2)I stated that a press conference should have been held because of the extenuating circumstances involving the UL Basketball Ball program: Currently on NCAA Probation and Facing Possible Ban for all sports programs from post season play because of poor APR performance. Knowing all this, David Walker decided to treat his decision to retain both coaches as business as usaul.

    David Walker
"I made the decision to do a press release because I felt like we could explain the reasoning in the release. Maybe that was a mistake on my part. If that's the case, I'll take full responsibility for that. But we retain coaches every year, and we don't call press conferences to say we're keeping them. I really didn't want them treated any different. The two-week evaluation they went through was a trying process, and I wanted them to be able to move forward."

Walker approved it Nation, he was involved in the decision from day one.

Well, then, should he not be fired?

We fired Nelson for messing up the Cyprien hire.

Why shouldn't Mr. Walker be fired for totally mismanaging the APR issue?

Keep in mind that the APR problem could have department wide repurcussions. This is 10x more serious than simply not vetting a resume'.

If he was responsible for this fiasco, he needs to be fired. Plain and simple.

Don't hold your breathe, but Mr. Walker would best serve this university in his old position and not as the Athletic Director.

Z, I believe it has been announced... the Dave Walker way. He is waiting on Josh to interview him on it. Like he said about making an announcement that we were keeping our basketball coaches... "what's to announce"?

I think we've opened a new bank account with AIG and all are welcome to put money in it. Two pennies on every dollar will go toward our program and the rest toward AIG bonuses. The title on the account is "Just Kidding Cajuns". The T has been crossed and they are waiting on the second I to be dotted (it's a small hotwheel logo - really SWEET). I believe they are debating on using the pepper as the J in "Cajuns" and it is holding them up... something about it's affect on APR. You'll have to ask Dave Walker. He and Tim Geithner are still running the numbers, but they guarantee if we just stay optimistic, it will all work out... next year.

I'm surprised that no one else has said this yet:
If the basketball team does have a sorry season next season, then is there any reason why we shouldn't get both a new Men's Basketball coach AND a new AD?

So it was protectionism at its best/worst.

There was no way he could fire Lee without resigning.

I believe in that case, Robert Lee will become the new both... afterall, the athletes want it that way. I also heard that in order to have a fantabulous APR, we no longer recruit basketball players that have any potential for going pro... thus eliminating the chance of anyone leaving early for that "terrible excuse". Watch and see if the "evolving APR equation" doesn't leave UL, once again, looking like dunces. Our admin just bought beach front property in Idaho... for the tax breaks... if you know what I mean.
