Thread: Road to the Frozen Four.

Default Road to the Frozen Four.

I'm watching the college hockey games today and enjoying the heck out of it. I know most of you are like I hate hockey. I feel the same about baseball. I've been a fan of hockey since the 1980 "Miracle on Ice".

I know Ron Handy is trying to upgrade our hockey program. I wonder how much it would cost to play at this level in college? Do you guys think people would support it enough to make it worth our wild? It is a very different game than minor league hockey (No fights).

The travel cost would be the killer as there isn't anybody here in the South other than Alabama-Huntsville that play D-I hockey. There's some good university club teams in our region; esp. in the Atlanta and Raleigh/Durham areas. The level of play is at about the same level as you see in NCAA D-3 hockey.

As someone who's played hockey since I was 6, I can tell you its impossible to have an NCAA ice team. Cost wise and the fact that the talent around here is nowhere near good enough. Add the fact that not too many around here watch the sport. You would need the money to travel, better facilities, and to recruit all over northern US and Canada.

    Sounds easy huh?

No it doesn't sound easy at all. I wonder how Huntsville is able to do it? Anyways I guess we need to correct our traditional sports before this would even be a thought. I really do love the sport. I can't understand why it has never caught on in this country. I guess soccer fans feel the same way. I would rather have a root canal with a blind and deaf dentist than to watch soccer.

Perhaps a lower key division like with LSU, Tulane etc... played in a better venue like Blackham would work?

That's what we have now in the acha. This is the league for teams at that lower level that can't afford or have the quality for NCAA team. There are probably more teams in the acha than in NCAA I think at least. A lot of Texas schools as well
