At the same time, he pretty much single-handedly lost the ASU game then single-handedly won it. Consistency is needed from all our QBs

This kid is very mobile, very accurate, has a strong arm, and is very good throwing on the run. My only concern is his height, but because of his mobility, he often rolls out and finds lanes to throw. The defense must respect his legs.

    2. McGuire looked ok at times both throwing and running. He has a strong arm and seems comfortable with the offense. He did make a couple bad decisions but did throw a couple of TD's.

    3. Masson did not look all that great. He should be #3. Brady Thomas ran the 4th team but does not have much of an arm. Keldric White did not play, I am assuming an injury as his knee was wrapped and he was limping. I would like to see a package ready for White (wild cajun). He can run.

    4. It was hard to judge the running backs because they had no holes to run through. Undre Sails had the best day breaking two good runs. Booker may have had the 2nd best day and shows some promise. Shankle is injured and did not play. Walker played but was bottled up most plays. He did make one nice play on a screen play for big yardage.

    5. The WR's again disappointed me. Way too many drops. Jawanza Mitchell is horrible. Last scrimmage he dropped many passes and again today dropped 2-3 more. Perrie Hill was knocked out early by a hit from Jezreel Washington. The other WR's did ok but nothing impresive, too many drops. We need Lance Kelly back on offense.

    6. The TE's look to be a real strength. Luke Aubrey was awesome. He caught everything thrown his way including multiple TD's, one for big yardage. Green we know what he can do. Brendon Wilson had at least one catch.

    7. FG kicking was horrible. Made one and missed many. Same last week.

    8. Defense. As a whole this is the best defense since the mid 90's. I do not see a weakness other than size at DT. Dean, Moore, and Williams had good scrimmages. Our ends have more size than years past. Our LB's even without Brooks and Fleming are much more athletic than years past. The DB's have not been tested but they seem to be pretty good. _
I agree Blaine has the most upside out of the group of QB's on scholarship right now. But what you witnesssed today was Blaine against the 2nd and 3rd team defenses. McGuire and Masson faced off against 1st and 2nd second defenses. There is a big drop off in talent on that 3rd team; considering the number of injuries on defense right now (Topp,Rogers, Fleming, Brooks, Jackson, Gillis) the third team has many walk-ons right now.

The big test for Gauthier will come in the fall, but right now it's McGuire because of his toughness and leadership, with Masson right behind him.

Redshirt freshman Brett Baer connected on field goals from 40,42, and 43 yards, missed on from 61 yards. That's hardly terrible in my book. He is winning the job right now.

We were at the same scrimmage right??? I know I forgot my glasses today but most of the time when two guys lined up in our backfield and one placed the ball on the ground and the other kicked it the dudes in striped shirts were waving their arms below their waist. I saw them reaching for the sky only a couple of times. And we tried quite a few of those kicks.

What were our two kickers maybe 3 of 12???

I could be mistaken, but I think Gauthier was playing with the 2nd and 3rd team offense as well....

Yea I read where we made multiple FG's but that is not what I saw. We missed way more than we made. That was with the wind at our back.

I understand Gauthier was running against 3rd string defense but like someone else said he is running with 3rd string offense. I am totally ok with McGuire starting the season as the starter, I just want Gauthier to get his chances with the 1st unit to see what he can do and a chance to prove himself. I think that at least Gauthier should have a few packages a game come season time and rotate in. I just don't see why Masson is ahead of Gauthier.

Cajun T what is your opinion of the WR's? And do you think Lance Kelley should stay at FS or switch back to WR? I got info from a very realiable source that Kelley is ok playing FS because he is a teamplayer but he really wouuld like to play WR. He did not ask to switch to defense but was asked.
I have not been impressed with the WR's as they have dropped too many passes and I have not seen much after the catch. So far only Ross Goodlet has impressed me and he just played in the first scrimmage. Goodlet was not anyone's pick to lead this WR core and he is a non scholarship player. We need someone who will make the tough catches over the middle and is dynamic after the catch and that guy is Lance Kelley. At the start of last seson the only WR's ahead of Kelley was Jason Chery and Derrick Smith, both has graduated.

Maybe, but the guy who is winning the job was 3-of-4, not bad for a freshman. I wouldn't call his performance terrible.

Lance is progressing well, its difficult to learn a new position in the spring and defensive coverages. Lance gives the Cajuns one thing that is absent at the safety position, size. Blount and Richard are 185 lbs. Rolle is 6-3, but weighs around 180-pounds. Kelley brings size and good athletic ability to the safety position. We also adds depth at the position and we need that right now.

The WR's have struggled some this spring, with the exceptions of Green and Louis Lee. Lee didn't not dress out yesterday because of a sore hamstring. I consider Green more of a WR, then a TE. When you consider the Cajun staff is going to spilt Green out wide at times and use Aubrey out of the slot, we will be okay in the fall. But I think some of these guys need to be more consistent.

    First Group

    Ladarius Green
    Louis Lee
    Richie Falgout
    Marvin Miller
    Verlin Moore

    Second Group

    Rico Joseph
    Pierre Hill
    Vernon Wolfe
    Ross Goodlett

The rest are fighting to be invited back in the fall. Also, don't forget Fr. Javon Lawson. I think he has the ability to challenge for a place in the rotation. He is more polished coming out of HS then Pierre Hill and we saw some good things from him last season.

Thanks for the insight. I agree 100% with what you say and your grouping. My only problem is if Lance Kelley isn't starting or staring on defense we are missing him on offense. The WR's needs a playmaker. I am also disappointed in the JUCO Wr's at this point but I expect them to be better.

I think it would be silly not to give Kelley a shot with punt and kickoff returns.

As far as having playmakers...., we might not have any yet on offense. We might not have any at all.

But, that's not to say we won't score. I think the name of the game this season on offense is "No Mistakes", then taking your shots downfield when you can with Green.

I know you are only throwing this out as a disguise... we have no "by name yet" playmakers. It's actually a beautiful thing. The opposition and our coaches are currently unlimited in their personnel approach to our offensive playmakers. Believe me... it is a much more beautiful thing than meets the simply-minded eye.... and I know you know that. Spring football round-ups aren't where talent is showcased. It is about unkinking the kinks. I never thought MD (throwing) or Chery (catching) ever looked good at spring scimmages.

Lance Kelley...I wonder if Kelley was switched to Defense because his knee got blown out last year. Maybe there is a little less running at Free Safety... I hope he didn't loose much speed as a result of the injury....don't know thinkin out loud here.

Cajun T, how does the depth chart look at LB? How has Benoit's transition been to LB, do you think he makes a push for 1st unit? I know that young man is super athletic, I expect it to translate soon!
