You know what is the funniest part of y'all bickering? The defense didn't lose this game for us. Yes we gave up 48 points, but how many did we score?
The offenses inability to sustain drives and put points on the board is why we lost. Throw in a gifted 7 points and two more turnovers and we got to witness a lopsided score in a game that the score wasn't indicative of talent or defensive coaching. The offensive gameplay was horrendous. We lost Robinson and decided that our other WR were chopped liver. Alonzo Harris had 12 carries for 74 yards and a TD before the game got away from us.
The run game got exactly what we wanted, La Tech to walk down and stack the box. What did we do? Ran 10 to 15 yard pass plays right where we forced La Tech defenders to creep up to in order to stop the run. We didn't stretch the field. That is on the staff.
The defense played the run fairly well early on but our problem lies in not getting pressure on the QB. This should have been alarming enough when it didn't happen against SU. Tech was a much better team and if you want to be effective on defense, you have to be able to get to their QB just as they did to us as this is what helps create turnovers.
In agreement, I put the majority of this on the coaches. I don't think they had a great plan, once it was obvious they didn't have a great plan we didn't seem to make any adjustments. I was really hoping that we didn't invite all tech's commits, it's looking apparent that we did. I don't like that, to me those are the kind of things that bite you. This whole thing set up to humble us and I hope it did.
I get that we play conservative so as not to give up the big play but we drop 8 and still give up the big play. Am I the only one to see this?
I was very disappointed in the coaches, namely, because they have a track record of making good adjustments at half. We did no such thing this week and we just waited for them to hit big play after big play. I'm not sure if what I'm hearing about not opening up the defensive playbook was accurate but I hope it wasn't. To think you could play a team like Tech and just beat them with your personnel and a vanilla scheme is idiotic.
Also, is there a chance that many of their recruits are being recruited by us also? We typically recruit head to head with them on many kids so that wouldn't surprise me at all if Hud invited them to try to show that we are a better program. I think Boomer would be the expert here. Any help Boomer??
