If the Cajuns lost by 7 or even 10 points I would agree with you.
If you take away those 3 plays I would bet that they would have scored on 3 different plays. Ol' Skippy had Hud's number from the second the teams came out of the tunnel after halftime.
He had it before they went into the locker room, he gathered them all up while the band was getting ready and was lighting the fire. They wanted it and were going to take it at all costs. Our defense has been the same the past 3 years sans different personnel the difference is the O usually bails us out which as well all know didn't happen.
Our problem is not getting to the QB. When he has the time to throw that we've given our two opposing QB's, they will be able to find holes in our zone defense. This was the second week in a row that Trim was burned big and I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Watson playing more for him like he did when he took over a couple of series against Southern. This defense is pretty decent against the rush but we still can't defend the pass at all, especially when 2 of our best CB's are playing safety.
Oh yeah, that's how you should look at it. If we could just take away all the bad plays from the game, i'm sure we can all agree we played good defense. Well, those bad plays happened just like the good ones but they had a much bigger impact don't you agree?
Let me ask this, for all those taking that approach. Do you feel that we would have won this game even with the absence of those 3 big plays? To me, Tech dominated this game from the start and controlled it with their defense. I never got the feeling, after the first quarter that we were going to control this game.
if you take a look at both plays you see the Briscoe gives up a yard or two when he moves laterally....I really hope they fix this!!
Also...tech misrepresents briscoe's first move as forward (second PIC).
If not for those big plays, we would be pointing to 30 plays. We got our azzes kicked, no way to spin it. I blame it mostly on the coaches but the players had their part in it as well. I will say, I have not been impressed with the way HUD has handled this so far. I guess we will see Saturday.
Or they just drive it down our throats, or complete 3rd and a mile like they did the whole game. The rest of the game suggest I would most likely be right. That's not how the game works, you can't just take away plays. How about they take away our scoring plays then they would have shut us out. If we don't pull broadway maybe he throws 2 more pick 6's. Slice it however you want, we got our azzes kicked because we were unprepared. I also feel like our head coach and fan base got a big slice of humble pie. Respect your opponent, always. Especially when you are more known as a program that lays an egg than pulls upsets.
But they weren't doing much on offense until the 99 yard run. Think about how huge of a momentum shift that is. You are backed up on your one yard line. Offensively you haven't done much. Instantaneously you have a 7 point lead on an offense that is putting up yards but not scoring. That changed the entire dynamic of the game. A dynamic we were not prepared for...at all.
It's not as simple as eliminating 3 plays. However, this game was nothing like the stAte game at home a few years ago where they gashed us on every single play. That was a much worse defensive performance than this one I think we can all agree. Hopefully we will see a more inspired performance Saturday.
