It IS highly debatable. Your only claim is USN&WR Tier 1 and you were the last schools admitted when Tier 1 was increased to 200 universities. UL is ranked around 210 and is quickly gaining in the highly subjective rankings. Doc 1!is the real indicator of academic excellence and neither school is there. Both UL and Tech are SREB Doctoral 2 universities. UL is Carnegie rated RU/H as is Tech. UL is a Rockefeller Top 100 Research universities. Tech is not. UL has more PHDs than Tech. UL has more than triple the Research dollars and has more Research than the all UL System schools combined. UL has more than double the Endowment of Tech. And, UL has almost double the enrollment. Quit perpetuating the myth that Tech is academically superior.

We are about 30 doctoral graduates away from reaching SREB Doc I status. We are in the approval process of adding another PHD program which will get us closer to Doctoral I.

Our Systems Engineering PHD program is continuing to grow and we will achieve Doc I within three years of the approval of the new PHD program.

As far as Tier I, La Tech got included when the expanded the rankings. They didn't improve to get there. It just became more inclusive.

At any rate, USN&WR is about as useless as the AP poll, and we both know it. Perhaps, looking at this report you can make the case that Lolly Polly has a SLIGHT edge on Louisiana at the moment, but let's not act like it's Ivy League vs SEC here, with regards to academia obviously.

I don't know about the better conditioning---I have seen the videos of other schools and everybody is kinda doing the same thing---I think that others however try to match up to what we are doing!!! This has been going on forever (the debate on getting the legs back and how much weight training and contact is sufficient)---God I hope we are ready!!!

He explained how close the ranking was in that particular "study". Enough to allow margins of error to make the claim debatable. Then he included several other data sets that are absolutely valid in comparing our academic standing comparisons. To ignore that we (UL) are improving daily, as Tech uses retro glory to keep from feeling inferior... is very similar to your buddy poster bringing up ancient football outcomes when we have a game in 5 days.
