Thread: Riles, Barnes team up as slot WRs

  1. Default Riles, Barnes team up as slot WRs

One very much wanted a change, and requested a rather big one after the conclusion of last season. The other is making a comparatively minor move, but a change nonetheless.

For Al Riles and Matthew Barnes, the switches appropriately come at a position whose makeup has evolved since Mark Hudspeth's first season as head coach of the Ragin' Cajuns in 2011.

We will need someone, if not both, to really contribute in the middle this year. This offense is at its best when we have at least one guy operating in the middle of the field and moving the chains.

I was certain Fuselier would be Riles back up...I'm shocked that Barnes came out of nowhere, switched positions, and will now get some PT. That screams volumes about Hud and his staff in recruiting...competition out there is fierce.

Even though I haven't seen him play one down of football. I bet we use Barnes like the Saint use Colston along the seams. Meanwhile, I think we use Rile for shorter slants and plays designed for run after the catch.

The coaching staff has been raving about Barnes and If I remember correctly, I thought they were weighing letting him play last year and not red shirting but ultimately decided to since we had so much depth there. He sounds like he could make a great utility player for us since he could effectively line up at H-back or full back and still come out of the slot as well.

Colston - I mean use him as an all-pro receiver who's made more leaping back shoulder and catches in traffic then most guys currently playing. The similarity being their size and that Colston does not have incredible speed but really good hands.
