Why does it seem no other University is having this same issue. There is no doubt more behind this idiotic decision, than they are letting out. Exactly. For some reason the defenders of this situation seem to paint this as an either / or issue. They act as if the choice is either between cheating to win and losing with integrity. How about we demand winning with integrity? Other universities do it. And I'm not talking about BCS programs. Its still possible to have good, competitive winning programs and do it the right way. I'm not talking about winning championships every year but surely we can have integrity and do better on the field of play than we have been seeing from our programs recently. We don't ahve to sacrifice athletic success for academic success and vice versa.

this is en e-mail i sent to d. walker today:

    sir:

as a football season ticket holder, a lifelong fan of this university's athletic program, and an alum of this wonderful university, i must convey my deep regret in the course of action you have taken re: the retention of mssrs. lee and rogers. to those of us who were hoping that the athletic program would finally begin to soar to its highest potential with the departure of dr. authement, the signal is sent that the new administration is willing to tolerate mediocrity in our athletic department as well. please, sir, if you have any regard for this blessed university and her athletic program, resign your position immediately. if you have any shred of integrity left, please step down so we may move forward and put this program on the proper footing toward our rightful place among other mid-major programs in this country.

The thing that gripes me is that AT BEST it is a flip of the coin as to who would have better a player retention rate, Lee or a winning attitude new coach.

When you consider it was Lee and Walker who put UL in this mess in the first place it is a no brainer, go with the clean slate.

    A new coach.

It's becoming apparent that athletics is going to have to take a nosedive before Dr. Savoie cleans house and appoints an athletic director who can develop a normal athletic department.

This time, UL just may have finally bit off more than it can chew. _

I dont understand this whole excuse thing. You know we are on probation right now. You know if we have a bad year, APR-wise, then we will have penalties to face. Why is this an excuse? _
Here, look up excuse at dictionary.com "an inferior or inadequate specimen of something specified" It seems to fit nicely, I think. Yes, it would be pathetic if those things happen, and you know what? It can still happen with Lee. I would rather get a new Coach that can coach Basketball, and maybe we can even require him to keep the APR up! Man, I know it's a lot to ask, but darn it if 99% of the D1 Universities can expect that much, I would think we can too! To top it off, we should have never been put in this situation to begin with. This reflects poorly, not only on the players, coaches, and leaders of the Athletic Dept., but those of us who have ties to the University, the Alumni, current students, etc. Plain and simple, if those running things can't do the job, then get someone else who can. I know I'm not the only one thinking the unthinkable, our football team finally gets going next season, brings us a big 9-3 or whatever, and it goes down in flames because basketball players can't make their APR. This is just crazy. Dr. Savoie needs to show some, and remove David Walker.

Bingeaux! It is that simple. What a monumental failure of leadership.

Slam Dunked II has at least two returning characters from Slam Dunked I

The NCAA returns with new and clever rules process that uniquely picks on small and poorer schools.

A still apathetic administration is back with a schizophrenic personality twist that will astound even the most hardened fan. Instead of throwing the successful coach under the bus they give the failed coach the keys to bus.

    Stay tuned.

all i can say is that after next season, if the fan support, attendance etc etc is like we anticipate it to be, they had better go out and find a big time coach that has a serious track record of winning. It will be burried so for under the dirt, you will need an escavator to find it

T-Joe and DW started their employment at UL on the same day and are very close---Don't think that DW will be fired----I am thinking that he has about thirty years plus years in the system and can retire at about 70 or so % of 150k--not bad but if he goes 40 years he would get 150k for life---- I think that this is the retirement system's figures ergo ---why it is broke!!!!

The admin. does what it does because they don't feel the heat from a substantial athletic foundation that is NOT under their 100% control.

We don't even HAVE an athletic foundation let alone a private one.

If we did have one in place several years ago,.........

--Stokley would have been given the resources to put ourselves, solidly, on the 1-A success map.

--Stokley would never have been let go.

--Baldwin would never have been hired.

--Lee would never have been head coach.

--Rogers would never have been hired.

    --Silvey would still be here.

--We would already have a new baseball stadium.

--We would already have a new football pressbox.

--Walker would not be the A.D.

If you think I'm way off base here, ask yourself this question.

Would the members of the TAF allow what has gone on here, at UL, to happen over there?
