Like I said in the BEV thread, there's 2 sides:

APR risks - perhaps we aren't close to the edge, maybe we are and possibly lose players if Lee is fired and in turn, all of our sports suffer for many years to come

Financial - Cost of buyout, new coach's salary vs Losses in season tickets, supports, concessions, etc.

From the decision they made they are saying:

APR - Risk is high if we fire a coach so we keep Lee

Financial - While it will be expensive to fire and buyout, the costs faced due to loss in support at games is probably higher, but do not overcome the possibility of academic issues. Then again, maybe its more to fire and we need to keep him and save some money. IDK? _
That all may apply to Lee but how do you justify keeping Rogers? Walker says he is giving him the remainder of his contract because they knew he would need time to "get back" to the winning ways. But Rogers is the guy who is responsible for getting away from the ncaa post season ways that Kelly Hall left him with. They claim they knew he would lose all those veteran players this year, but didn't he have them last year and he only won 8 games? Then he only wins 3 games this season. And he has had players quit on him mid-season. How does that square with the concerns about the APR? The guy is a bum! Fire him!

This is what I said in another thread:

The APR is not being used against Rogers as much IMO. I think it was given in the press release that Rogers was given a 4 year opportunity and he's 2 years in. Not that its a great excuse as I have 1% of faith in Rogers turning this around.

Bottom line is this: you have to look at this decision (keeping Lee) on long term and short term, logically and not emotionally. I have yet to hear any logical reason that would outweigh the argument that we could lose the postseason due to APR.

Does anyone have any sort of reason that would outweigh APR penalties? Making this decision you weigh all the factors and consequences and ultimately, I have heard no arguments that come close to convince me that this wasnt the right decision long term. It is not a popular choice, and personally, I will hate to see another bad year in all likelihood, but when you are looking down the line, this had to be done.

Please, if you have a reason to fire Lee that outweighs the risk of the penalties, let me know. This decision is all risk management and you have to look at it like a robot not a fan.

Also, I do agree with the fact that David Walker has plenty of blame in this matter. Much or all of what has happened occurred under his tenure. Its for this reason that I feel that he is on as thin, if not thinner, ice than Lee is.

    This is key:

Lee had to stay on because of how he affects APR. Walker has no clear reason to stay other than his body of work.

Make of that what you will.

wcd35 it is a false assumpion to assume Lee will accomplish in year six what he failed to accomplish in any single year prior. That being zero attrition.

It is an equally false assumption that the right hire would suffer any attrition.

What we have now is a school that needs the current roster more than the current players need the school.

Under no circumstances can this ever be allowed to occur.

Can we still call him "The General" and blame everything on Jesse Evans?

    Please. Please can we?

Very true on the last comment. However, this decision shouldn't be based on assumptions. One can assume all they want.

Fact is, we are in an NCAA "Watch Period" until next year

Fact is that if we do not have another great APR year next year, we likely suffer one of the worst penalties that can be doled out.

My educated guess is that we can survive a possible year of bad basketball MUCH more easily than a possible penalty

    Thats just me

I don't care what we call him... but it should be a long distance call.

It seems to me that UL is always faced with a decision between bad and worse...or dumb and dumber, as the case may be. It takes alot of effort to constantly put yourself in that position. Is there any expectation that the current cast of characters is capable of breaking that cycle?

Questions----Who left and why to put us in this mess????----What are the APR rules that put us in this situation???----How can the NCAA possibly be this stupid to roll penalties to other sports?????----Most of these guys are doing what all kids do--trying to rally around their coach-but since when do the players run the Athletic Dept.???????

You're about to see athletes running the program - the bball players have Lee/Athletics dept. by the balls - and not the basketballs either. Lame duck coach/lame duck administration - only way this sucks more is if we become bowl eligible in football and still get put on probation because of this basketball fiasco

thanks for answering--that was exactly my fear--Can you expand on the situation that did/is/can occur!!!!!???? How do you think the responses of Lee and Rogers to the administration went???? Were their agents directly involved????
