I sent my email:
I saw a news bulletin that stated we would be retaining the men’s and women’s basketball coaches. If this is true I am deeply disappointed. We do not accept mediocrity in academics, so why do we accept it in athletics. Retaining the basketball coaches is absolutely unacceptable as a graduate and fan. Rogers has gone 11-49 during his tenure, and he inherited a good program. I and so many others are fed up with what appear to be unprofessional and uneducated decisions. They have done well academically, which is great, but does that mean a coach that wins games cannot do that? Good luck getting anyone in the dome next year, I can only take so much so I will likely not be at any games until the coaching staff is improved. I have hardly missed a game since I started at UL and even since I graduated. Now I find myself having to justify going to a game, like a junky looking for a fix. “Come on baby, I don’t need a win, just give me a dunk”. I love this University and I know that you are doing what you think is best; however I cannot imagine how you came to this decision. It must have involved 1) the economy, hard to budget money we may not have, or 2) We don’t want to get sued again. Either way, the RCAF, could help with that if only it was operating. What is holding this up? Yet another disappointing milestone. We have been hearing about it for over a year. Oh, and by the way, now would probably not be a good time to ask for money anyway, so just put it off another year. Where is the alumni association and the booster club? Where are the concerned voices in an educated debate? Woefully silent; just like the Cajundome next year.
Respectfully Yours,
