My thoughts....
I think that some of the players that like Lee and thus wanted him to stay, only like him for at least one reason there could be more. He has lost all control/discipline of this team and they can basically do whatever they want. Question: What more than anything do 18-22 year old males want? Answer: Besides that? FREEDOM! And with Lee as coach they have that. Those that want him to stay (as someone else put it "holding the athletic dept hostage") don't really care about the losing program becuase they have that freedom. They can do whatever they want in practice, they obvisouly don't have to learn how to run an offense, or shoot free throws better (or at all), they only have to play streetball during games for the most part, etc., etc..
Those that wanted him to go care about a winning program and are now stuck with a poor coach, or will have to quit the team.
I think we have a few "cancers" on this team that caused Lee to lose all control/discipline and a downward spiral started sometime back. Could have even been prior to this past season. I don't know any of the players so I would have NO CLUE as to who they would even be. This is a theory I have put together over time from bits and pieces of news that I have heard. We need a new coach to come and clean house I have a feeling.
Then again these are just my thoughts......and I could be TOTALLY WRONG!
I think our bball program has just been cursed. To see where we came from, to where we are now, scrapping bottom and trying not to let bball ruin the whole damn program, things have had to all fall this way for a reason. The APR just shows how much the NCAA is dedicated to keeping the fat cat programs in power for a long long time.
Wait till the girls supposedly rumored to want to leave the women's team do and we get hit with APR trouble bc of that.
I noticed two things when I read the paper this morning.
1. Did anyone else notice that in his press release , Walker said that he had to consider
on-court performance "IN ADDITION" to the team's APR. It kind of signals that wins and
losses are an after-thought.
2. Coach Lee said that he "wasn't surprised with the decision" to be kept and that the
team is on the right track. This is a far cry from when he BEGGED fans to come to the conference play-in game in spite of their feelings for him and from a reportedly somber
post game meeting with his players after the loss where he might of thought he was
gone.
This is absolutely, positively, a disgrace. To have such a ridiculous excuse is insane. Most Universities demand progress and improvement from their athletics, oh but not us, we have to be different. I've have never heard such a lame axx excuse coming from any other University before. Why does it seem no other University is having this same issue. There is no doubt more behind this idiotic decision, than they are letting out. I just cannot believe this is acceptable to our new President. The A.D. Walker should step down NOW!
All your opinions. No one has facts disputing the "excuse." So if most had it there way, and Lee got fired and players left in poor academic standing and we had no post season, then how pathetic would our athletic department be.
I dont understand this whole excuse thing. You know we are on probation right now. You know if we have a bad year, APR-wise, then we will have penalties to face. Why is this an excuse?
