UL – Louisiana’s Lady Cajuns tennis team continued their hot play this month extending their win streak to four Tuesday by beating Northwestern State 6-1. The Cajuns (5-7) were once again able to win the doubles point and take an early 1-0 lead.
Northwestern struck first in the doubles portion when Adna Curukovic and Daniela Posada disposed of Marina Ruiz de Gauna 8-1.
UL was able to come back and win the next two doubles matches in order to take home the point.
Louisiana’s Milou Israel and Angela Dangond jumped out to 7-3 lead before closing out their match with an 8-5 victory.
In the number one doubles match UL again jumped out to an early lead 6-3. However, Northwestern State was able to close within 7-6 before Julie Mazinova and Mia Gordon decided enough was enough and won 8-6.
In the singles portion UL was able to get a win in the top five positions.
Reigning Sun Belt player of the week Julie Mazinova won in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.
Marina Ruiz de Gauna also won in straight sets 6-2, 6-4.
Louisiana got gutsy wins from Israel and Dangond who both got three set wins. Dangond came back after losing the first set 3-6 and took the final two sets 6-4, 6-3. Israel jumped out early with a 6-4 win in the first set before losing the second set 3-6. Israel won a thrilling third set by the score of 7-5.
The Cajuns travel to Starkville, Mississippi Thursday, to take on the Mississippi State Rebels at 11:00 a.m.
