Thread: Upset of No. 3 LSU meaningless unless it carries over to Sun Belt

  1. UL Baseball Upset of No. 3 LSU meaningless unless it carries over to Sun Belt

UL baseball coach Tony Robichaux called his team's thrilling 10-9 win over third-ranked LSU on Wednesday one of the top wins during his tenure with the Cajuns.

He was quick to mention, though, how little the program's first win over a top-three opponent in nine years will mean if UL cannot carry that momentum into this weekend's Sun Belt home series against Florida Atlantic.

The Cajuns (6-7-1 overall, 1-2 Sun Belt) face off with the Owls (10-3, 1-2) in the first matchup of the three-game series at 6:30 tonight. The teams are in a four-way tie for sixth place in the league standings.

JP, with all due respect to Tony Robichaux and I have nothing but respect for the man, that there is soooommmmme classic "coachspeak". Can't wait to hear Coach Bustle say the same thing after a 10-9 win.

Agree... but it is good "coachspeak". We can't hang our hat on the top 5 win for very long. Reality will set in real quick if we attempt to. <---- fanspeak

I love coach Robe, but isn't he somewhat notorious for being the "coachspeakiest" of them all?

We should be past all of this when it comes to baseball and softball. This was a great win against a top 5 opponent, and yes it was against the evil empire. But guess what? If we don't win conference or are not on the "bubble" when it comes to selection time, this win holds no value. What are we going to do, talk trash while they are in a regional and we are on the couch? Great win, but the title of this article and robe's quotes are dead on. Now let's hope the rain holds off enough to handle our business this weekend.

I don't think its "coach speak" at all. If we beat a #3... but then lay another BIG EGG this weekend in a conference series... all the good that came out of Wednesday's win is negated by a series loss.

As much as I dislike LSU and enjoyed tremendously the win Wednesday night, we can't then afford to take another big step backwards in conference play.

    I agree totally!!

So, exactly how are the LSTATE game (win or lose) and the FAU series connected? I'm not saying the FAU series isn't important, it certainly is but beating #3 LSTATE at their place especially considering recent history is outstanding on its own. Crap, enjoy the moment, it only lasted until today.

Agree... but fans can enjoy a single victory as long as they want... I've enjoyed moments like Wednesday night over and over again... and will likely enjoy this one several times in the future.

I think Robe telling the team his "coachspeak" is the right place to take this one game win into this weekend and beyond. (CajunRed) "coachspeak" isn't a matter of being correct or not... it usually reeks of the obvious. It is for the team, not us fans, and it's the right thing to say.

I can ride around Baton Rouge yelling "Ragin Cajuns!" all weekend (until I get shot)... and Robe can still win the series against FAU.

I have been out of town enjoying the Cajundome and the Top 28. Who won the game Wednesday nite??

    Congrats on the win!

Did you catch that basketball game last nite? WOW, that was one great game as far as emotional ups and downs go. And to think Syracuse never had a lead till the 6th OT.
