Where to eat in Baton Rouge

_ The Buffalo Chicken Tenders are one of the best things I have eaten in a while. Voodoo is a must eat kinda place. Kinda like Canes when it first opened, sometimes you just had to eat there. _

On Nicholson, near the North Gates, in the Fieldhouse condo development. Pretty good and convenient to the Box

Voodoo is pretty decent bbq... nothing fancy about it. From traveling around the south and Texas... Louisiana doesn't have the best barbeque places (Louisiana people consider barbeque something you do at home or at tailgating). Louisiana has too many other great eat out food options. Other southern states and Texas put barbeque high on the list of primary eateries. Voodoo isn't too bad. I didn't realize one was coming to Lafayette. I hope it sticks... most bbq places in Lafayette don't.

I tried VooDoo's off Jeff Hwy & Drusilla once back when it first opened. "Fool me once, shame on you" as they say.

Went to The Chimes... Hard to pass up the beer selection...


First pitcher was Barney (Andy Gator and Purple Haze mixed)

The rest was all by recommendation from our waitress. We had Fried Alligator, Onion Rings, Stuffed Mushrooms and Stuffed Jalapenos.. then each polished off a burger.

Got wet at the game... but good times.


I will be attending the LSU/UL football game but I will be tailgating so no need to eat somewhere before...

There is an older thread on this subject titled "Where to eat in Baton Rouge"... I listed the following in that thread, but there are some opinions given by others you may want to consider. My recommendations are for the decent food and atmosphere, and not very expensive spots. Louisiana Lagniappe on Perkins just off Bluebonnet (across from Perkins Rowe) is a decent Louisiana cuisine restaurant for evening dining. I hope this helps.

TJ Ribs off I-10 at Acadian (good ribs, good brisket - totally LSU atmosphere)
Izzo's burritos - I like them if you want a azz load of cheap mexican food
George's or Ivar's under I-10 are not bad po-boy/sandwich spots
Chimes at the gates of LSU - good food and tremendous beer choices
Walk-ons - I just do not like their food, but it is close to the ballgame
Past-time - near the riverboat casinos and a few miles from Alex Box - run down pizza joint - some people love their pizza - I do not
Mellow Mushroom is pretty good pizza
Parrains on Perkins (not too far from George's and Ivar's) is about as close to good Cajun seafood as is available in BR.
Superior Grill - Government Street - Pretty good fajitas... don't like a lot of other menu selections.
There are some other good eateries (Italian, etc) but they are not pre and post ballgame joints.
My recommendation would go to Chimes (food variety and beer), Parrains (seafood), George's (po-boy), Voodoo (barbeque), and Izzo's (big fat tasty made to order burrito).
