    IMO if Kelly is that great of a playmaker then I am glad to see him move to the definsive side of the ball. We need more playmakers on defense. _

    We held out several players last spring due to grades. Coaches wanted them to get their academics in line before they hit the field. These coaches will not allow the players to play without their academic standards being met which means that they can't just practice no matter what they are doing in the classroom.

    I'd prefer to see him at receiver. These Juco's better be good because there's nobody on the depth chart to date besides possibly these guys who are necessarily better than Kelley at WR. We need a guy who runs excellent routes, has good hands and has decent size and he has these qualities.

    I'm pretty psyched to see him move to FS. He's a great athlete and has good hands, we need some of that on defense.

    Does anyone know if he is getting or has gotten a medical red shirt from that broken stick he suffered last year?

    I dont think that applies. You can still get a medical hardship redshirt. I think it has to be less than 10% of games played and I don't think he falls in that category. I could be wrong.

    Not sure of the percentage for a medical redshirt but he broke it in the 2nd game of the year.

    Yea I remember it for sure. Terrible injury. If its 10%, which I seem to remember hearing around the time he got hurt, then he wont get a RS since he was in 2 games.

    I believe you have to use up all eligibilty before you can apply for a medical redshirt.

    Here we go:

    Medical Hardship Waiver

    If a student-athlete suffers a season-ending injury or illness after competing in a limited amount of competition during a particular academic year, he/she may qualify for a medical hardship waiver which would allow him/her an additional season of competition during the five-year period of eligibility. To qualify for a medical hardship:

    (a) the student-athlete’s injury or illness must occur in one of the four seasons of intercollegiate competition or subsequent to the first day of classes in the student-athlete’s senior year in high school;

    (b) the injury or illness must occur prior to the completion of the first half of the playing season that concludes with the NCAA championship in that sport and must result in incapacity to compete for the remainder of that playing season; and

    (c) the injury or illness must occur when the student-athlete has not participated in more than two contests/dates of competition or 20% of the institution’s scheduled contests/dates of competition in his/her sport (whichever number is greater).
