Thread: Interesting twists to 2009 schedule

  1. UL Football Interesting twists to 2009 schedule

The UL football team's schedule for the 2009 season was released on Saturday. The Cajuns' 12-game slate features six home games, beginning with the season opener and ninth annual Herbert Heymann Football Classic on Saturday, Sept. 5 against Division I-AA Southern University.

That game, and the scheduled trip to Nebraska on Sept. 26, will be UL's first meeting in football with those programs.

In fact, the Southern game marks the first time since 2004 - and the fourth time since 2000 - that the Cajuns will open a football schedule with a home date. The announced schedule also marks the third time in the last four seasons that UL will play six home games.

After two home dates with Southern and Kansas State on Sept. 12 open the schedule, UL will play four Sun Belt Conference games at Cajun Field against North Texas (Oct. 10), Florida Atlantic (Oct. 24), UL Monroe (Nov. 21) and Troy (Nov. 28).

The 2009 season will be the first the Cajuns have opened and closed a schedule with two home games since 1989.

This is a great schedule for us. I think both home games to start are winnable.... If you are a cajun fan.. you have to take optimism like vitamins.

I must admit, I'm jealous of the game at Nebraska. I've been to quite a few college football stadiums, but I haven't made that trip yet. Is this just a one time deal with Nebraska? That would be something if ya'll could get them to visit Lafayette but it seems highly doubtful. All in all, it's a very good looking schedule and should generate a significant amount of interest heading into the season. One thing is for sure, ya'll SHOULD pound Southern into the ground.

The school should really use this to an advantage and get a grassroots effort to sell more season tickets than last year.

Can anyone tell me the last time we opened and closed with two home games!

One thing is for sure, I'll never say "we should pound anybody into the ground" after that McNeese game a couple of years ago. I will never take a win for granted being a cajun fan and never expect a win...

Didn't Parrott say it was like 89 or 84 in his article?

True, but we are talking about a SWAC team here. You should be very concerned if you don't win this game by at least a couple of TDs. The atmosphere itself should be fun as hell as I expect SU will bring a good crowd. Just watch your back, the ocassional brawl might break out. Their track team got into a brawl recently over at LSU's track facility.

Did anyone renew their season tickets yet? I called to renew mine three days ago. I told the woman that answered the phone what I was calling for and she transferred me to someone's voicemail. I left a detailed message and haven't heard back. Unbeleivable...
