If you're tweeting athletes you don't know with anything other than "Congratulations," you're not using good judgement.

This is dumb. And it happens all the time.

"ULL" is not poison. Damn. Dude's going to be a beast here. This sets the name battle back. It does not move the ball forward.

Get p*ssed when we bend to opposition and don't use "Louisiana" in our own stadium. Politely request ESPN announcers use Louisiana (and quickly get over it when they don't). Call the Advocate and ask for the change.

But gee whiz... you gonna go after Otha?

Man... if that's how we're going to fight the battle, I don't want to fight it. That's just ridiculous.
For everyone that wants to waste some time, go read the twitter stuff. The guy didn't "go after" Otha. Peters asked for ULL followers. The guy says something like "calling the team Louisiana or UL will get you plenty of followers". It's ridiculous that you would accuse the poster of "going after" him.

I'm glad he wasn't DM'd, whatever that is. I'm guessing it's a form of private message. And if that's the case, other players that are ignorant of the issue need to be aware of it as well. No one is walking around Texas calling longhorns "UTA" and all those examples.. Whether you think it's irrelevant or not, it matters.. We're either in a battle for the name or we're not.

JL, I'm sorry, but you're wrong on all accounts in this last rebuttal. Couldn't disagree more with "it makes us look petty" comment.

BJ, with all due respect, I don't accept that as an excuse. If he's from here, knows what we're called, etc, there's no reason to use ULL.

If we could fill our team with 5 star All Americans and win the national championship - but each player would use the "L," many of you would rather drag your happy butts to New Orleans to play freaking Air Force at 10 in the morning in a game nobody outside of Acadiana gives a crap about.

All because of an "L." White flag waived. That's not the type of fight I thought I was in.
WTF does him being an all American have ANYTHING to do with his improper use of the name?!?

    Tone matters.

"refer to the team correctly, and I'm sure you'll get plenty of followers. Louisiana or UL."

That's a disrespectful response to "I need ULL followers."

There are no facial expressions on Twitter. No tone of voice. Just this.

It's disrespectful and lacks the tact and restraint this sort of thing calls for.

There's a time, a place, and a tone for all of this.

Wrong time, wrong place, and wrong tone.

If you don't understand Twitter enough to understand this, you shouldn't be tweeting athletes with anything other than "Congratulations."

Yea you're right, twitter is such a complicated vehicle of communication. People should really be careful.

Are you serious? I guess the correct time and place would be when this Jag guy and him were out having a guys night together, throwing back a couple cold ones and arm wrestling..

I don't know exactly what this is about but who taught the seniors?

Do you think its trickle down from us teaching Charles Tillman?

    I'm asking, I don't know.

When Pat Dye was introduced as the new head coach at Auburn years ago, in his introductory speech he said (and I paraphrase) "It is great to be the head coach of the University of Auburn". He was immediately notified that their correct name is Auburn University. Auburn takes great pride in their name, as they should. So, too, should Louisiana.

Twitter isn't complicated. For some, social etiquette is complicated.

This dude chose Louisiana to make his mark on the college football landscape.

We welcome him with an argument over an L, in public, for everyone to see.

One of the first things he ever hears from a Louisiana fan is, "refer to the team correctly, and I'm sure you'll get plenty of followers. Louisiana or UL."

In other words... you're dumb. So let me educate you.

That's not how it was meant. i'm sure of it.

Want to fix that? Add " " to the end. The way you talk to people is important. It's important in person, and it's important on Social Media.

I want Otha to be glad he decided to come here.

But instead he's greeted with arguments over an "L." Never mind all the interviews he's done where he called us UL or Louisiana.

Never mind adding context to show tone in what you're saying.

Just dude... you don't have followers because you call us ULL. Get with the program.

Not Hi, Otha, nice to meet you. Glad you're a Ragin' Cajun.

    But.

Hi, stranger. The reason you don't get no love is because you say ULL, dummy. Get with the program.

That's how it comes across. That's how we act every time we see an extra "L."

And that's why kickback is often so strong from people who otherwise couldn't care less.

I can't teach manners and respect. But I'm beginning to understand some of the blowback we get from people who couldn't give less of a crap about this, but see the way we act (like this) and think that's a normal way to behave.

But whatever. I'll start using "Ragin' Cajuns" exclusively and bow out of my forrmerly exclusive use of "Louisiana."

Good luck. i hope you win. I wish your tact and tactics were wiser.
