Should Coach Lee Be Fired?

_ Didn't LA Tech fire their football coach and bring in a new guy, made him the AD as well as Head Football Coach, paid him something like $500,000, AND pay off the fired coach? Surely if a school like LA Tech in the backwoods of N. Louisiana with a small fan base and way too many expenses to stay in the WAC could do it, the so-called sleeping giant of ours can find a way to pay off Lee and Rogers AND hire good replacement coaches. They weren't supposed to be competitive and surely couldn't survive in the WAC with the added expenses. As I recall, this new coach took LA Tech to a bowl game in his first year. Why are we minimally not competitive with them? The statement UL makes in firing Lee (and Rogers) or keeping them for another year will say everything we need to know about this university's committment to excellence in athletics. And, it will be the rallying point or dropping off point for most people in further support of UL. _

It was Dooley's 2nd year as head coach at La Tech and he became the AD in his 2nd year.

I have not heard anything. I did not intend to tease anyone yesterday. That was only my prediction as to what would happen-I had no inside knowledge.. I am as clueless as the rest of you as to where this decision stands at this moment.

As someone said earlier, this was Dooley's 2nd year as a head coach at Tech. They wer 4 and 8 his first year. In the regular season this year, they were 7 and 5 with one of the wins over a 1AA squad. Therefore they had the same no. of 1A wins we did this past year prior to the bowl. Your point is well taken however in that they are doing OK financially. They have a sugar daddy propping up their program. We need to find one (preferably several) of those.

Email the AD and the assistant AD. Let them know that you will not renew your season tickets should Lee be retained.

That may be the only way.

_ But there is a possibility that we can't due to financial restraints. Like someone mentioned earlier, I'm just scared that we satisfy everyone and fire Lee, then turn around and hire some local HS guy or some other bad coach. Both in my opinion are worse or equal hires to Lebato. _

There is a bigger financial restraint looming: no one in the seats for every single home bball game. Also no big booster willing to contribute significantly to the very ill program.

I've done that also. All we can do now is wait and see.

the coaching world.... outside of here... is a tough world... its a bottom line world... the best thing we could do is to FIRE him.... send a message we are serious about winning around here.. _

The reason he should be given the ability to resign is also benefitting us because we would not have to pay him his last year salary thus helping us tremendously. Its not hard to fire the guy but it is hard to pay two coaches at the same time with the budget we are given especially when you can't pay the buyout money with state funds which means it would have to come through the private sector.

If Coach Lee resigns, it will be after a deal is made allowing him to receive the buyout. There is no way he will say forego receiving 150 thousand dollars. That would not be fair to his family. He may resign "publicly", but in effect he will have been released.
