I have read several articles posted here. I will not spend a dime on the paper. They know how we like to brand ourselves but refuse to do so out of spite. When they change I may change. Until that time the advocate won't get any of my money.
The article on this thread is not from advocate. You may have known that just saying in case you did not.
Sorry. Not going to get over it. The advocate is making an effort, and I will give them that. Their competition is making no effort at all. In the battle between them, the advocate wins, but there is no way I am giving up on the push for Louisiana as the name we have rightfully chosen. That they will not respect that is not something I plan to walk away from.
Don't we have our own beat writer?
So just to be clear this newscopy article is not from the Advocate, it is simply a best practices "how to" that the Advocate (and todays Buckley best friends article) need to take notes from.
When someone leads with 'hey punk' the content matters less.
So full blown name usage is not the same as punk but it isn't much better.
When someone leads with full names over and over every story they are saying 'you unworthy unknowable' entity.
No one likes to be introduced to people they already know.
If the Advocate really thinks they have a brand new audience every issue, then they are right they don't need old readers who know who UL is.
Turbine, don't get stuck on stupid! The Acadiana addition of the Advocate will eventually call us Louisiana or Ragin' Cajuns if they want their circulation to increase. It usually comes down to business decisions and to opportunity to increase the bottom line. I'm not telling people they should buy the Advocate, but they should read the UL coverage because they now have a full time beat writer. That has never happened in the modern era of UL Football. UL wins either way with more coverage to others outside of the Lafayette or Acadiana area.
