• ALL TIME SERIES:
Louisiana holds an all-time advantage, 15-11, over the Southern Miss Golden Eagles. The two schools first met with a three-game series in Hattiesburg, beginning April 16, 1981. The Cajuns were swept in that series.

• RECENT HISTORY:
The Cajuns and Eagles have split their last four meetings, and in all four the winning team has shut out the other.

• AT “THE PETE”:
Southern Miss has won five of the last six meetings at Hill Denson Field at Pete Taylor Park. This trip marks the Cajuns’ third trip to Hattiesburg since 2000, all three for weekend series. The last trips came in 2001 and 2007.

• LAST MEETINGS:
Southern Miss spoiled Louisiana’s home opener in 2008 with a 6-0 victory on Feb. 29, 2008. Danny Farquhar took the loss in six innings, allowing five hits, five runs, all earned, but did pick up nine strikeouts. On March 2, Louisiana evened up with a 2-0 win behind a brilliant seven inning outing from Hunter Moody. He picked up the split shutout with 10 strikeouts, allowing just four hits and walking only one. For both 2008 meetings, both the Golden Eagles and the Ragin’ Cajuns were ranked, the Eagles at #28 and the Cajuns at #25.

• HITTING THE ROAD:
The Southern Miss series will be UL’s first road weekend series of the season. The Golden Eagles will be finishing off a season-opening, eight-game homestand. During the week, USM defeated fellow Sun Belters New Orleans (Feb. 24: 13-5) and South Alabama (Feb. 25: 12-0).

• STIFF OPPOSITION:
Southern Miss is one of 12 Cajuns opponents to receive national attention in Collegiate Baseball’s poll. The list includes #1 LSU, #10 Rice, #31 East Carolina, #33 Southern Miss, #34 Tulane and schools receiving votes, including Houston, Nebraska, WKU, Northwestern State, Southern, ULM and New Orleans.
