Thread: Experience up front a key to Cajuns’ offensive success

  1. UL Football Experience up front a key to Cajuns’ offensive success

Daniel Quave credits being prepared, and UL-Lafayette offensive line coach Mitch Rodrigue cites communication. Ragin’ Cajun offensive coordinator Jay Johnson says it comes down to experience.

Mykhael Quave credits yoga, and Cajun head coach Mark Hudspeth admits it takes a little luck along the way.

The center lacking a known starter, or anyone with experience, is a little bigger of a deal than the coaching staff is letting on. Of course they will downplay it, but this can be a huge thorn in the production of the offense if it's not filled with someone that can hold it down and protect the middle. I'm hopeful we have the guys to do it, but cautious.

Huval is going to be very difficult to replace because he was such an on-field leader. We were very fortunate to have someone there that knew the offensive scheme so well.

There are two players mentioned at Center, Eddie Gordon - a 6'1" 320 lb. JC transfer or Grant Horst, a 6'5" 260 lb. RS freshman. I don't see how a 260 lb. lineman can play on the O line. Doesn't look like he gained any weight over the past year. Won't big Nose Guards push him around? I hope Gordon is the real deal.

We said the same thing after Chris Fisher graduated. Before Fisher we had Greg Hodges, either Gordon or Horst will step up and be that next guy. We have always been pretty solid at the center position.

Yes, but we said the same thing when we lost Fisher before him. Huval stepped right in as a freshman and took over. Hopefully, we have guys that can give similar levels of performance and its a non issue.
